Please tell me about yourself.
I am an ambitious, community minded, hard working Mommy of two rugrats ages 4 and 7. Hubby and I have been married 21 years are both 44. Do the math and you can tell we entered parenthood later in life. Not by choice. We had struggles with infertility a long time before we were blessed with our oldest Jake (domestic adoption). Sara-boo followed a few years later (thanks to a special Dr, and some really yucky shots) and she just turned 4. I tell people the only downside to being an older parent is sometimes you forget where you leave your kids! I have not one but two homebusinesses and love a good project. Currently my biggest desire in life is to be able to leave the house (without kids) without it being an covert, Navy-Seal like operation. I’ve heard fairy tales of people who just grab their purses and leave the house. It’s crazy.
Please tell me about your blog.
I love my blog and am pretty darn proud of it. I started my blog just an outlet to practice my writing skills and tell my crazy-but-true Mommy stories. Parenthood is an adventure. Might as well laugh about it!
How long have you been blogging?
How did you get started?
The first blog I ever followed was Yayastuff. I connected with her through her Mommy Wannabe club (site for Moms struggling with infertility) and I loved her blog so much I thought I take a stab at it myself. It wasn’t long and I was a bloggin fool and I’ve been hooked ever since.
What kinds of products do you feature on your blog?
My main blog is 99.9% stories and writing but my companion blog (http://www.travelactivitybags.blogspot.com) showcases one of my home businesses of selling Travel Activity Bags for Kids. Someday I would love to get into reviewing products as well.
What was your favourite giveaway?
I haven’t done very many Giveaways, I am sure I’d do more if I had more time to concentrate on it. I tend to do them on items that blow my mind or something I really believe in. The last giveaway I did for a friend of mine who is a wonderful author. Her kids storybook The Big Book of Exclamations is so cool and is helping for parents of children with speech delays. It was a fun giveaway to do! (www.thebigbookofexclamations)
Who does your blog appeal to?
Any Mom/parent who needs a laugh and to be able to think “Oh thank Gawd it’s not just ME!”
What direction do you see your blog going in the future?
I’d love to have more time to write and post more often. I average a post every three days. There’s a part of me that understands Moms might just need a giggle break and reading some of my stories is just the ticket, but the other part of me want to be able resources & info for Moms and kids. I love helping people. Someday I’d love to go to BlogHer or one of the SITS conventions. That would be a dream come true.
What is the biggest challenge you have faced so far with your blog?
TIME. I work full time so I have about an hour a day to blog and/or read other people’s blogs. I would love to be able to spend more time tapping into the amazing mommy writers and bloggers out there. Oh yeah, I have ZERO computer skills. It’s all I can do to post a picture correctly.
What do you love about blogging?
I can just be ME. I can write what I want, when I want. Period. I apparently a big giant control freak 🙂
Do you have a blogging pet peeve?
I would say the only peeve I have is bloggers that just do reviews and giveaways with no hint of them in the blog. I mean, no personality, no sharing. I think connections is what keeps people coming back in the long run.
Do you have any advice for the readers entering your giveaway? newbie review bloggers?
When I do a giveaway, I try to keep it easy. I know lack of time is a big issue for me so I don’t want to be jumping through 10 hoops just to get entered. I’ve come across blogs that have way too many requirements/steps and I just bypass them. I guess I would want bloggers to remember that , at the core, their giveaway is about helping to shine the spotlight on an awesome company or product that will help make our life easier or energized.
Tell me some of your favourite blogs that you read.
Wow. there’s sooo many. I love Living In France (http://4livinginfrance.blogspot.com/) Mimi could be my sister. Housewife Savant because Kelly’s one of the few people that can make me laugh so hard I snort coffee out my nose(http://housewifesavant.blogspot.com/). then there my “envy blogs” Mom Bloggers I admire the heck outta like Theta Mom (http://www.thetamom.com/) and The Mommy Files (http://www.themommy-files.com/) and for just plain good readin and usable content I love (http://thismamaworksit.com/) and Christina from Nothern Cheapskate (fellow Minnesota blogger).
