Title: Hayseed’s First Race
Author:  Sally Schrock
About the Book:

Caballo Press of Ann Arbor is an award-winning small, innovative, independent publisher specializing in diverse topics related to the equine industry. Its first title won the 2009 Dr. Tony Ryan Book Award, an award that recognizes Thoroughbred horse racing’s book of the year. The intention of the press is to publish works in a variety of genres related to horses. A portion of every book we publish is donated to a non-profit organization related to horses.

On April 14, 2010, Hayseed will star in his first book, Hayseed’s First Race. In the story, Hayseed will teach you about loving yourself for who you are and to never, ever let anyone tell you that you don’t belong. In Hayseed’s first big race nobody, but nobody, gave Hayseed a chance of winning. Everyone knew that Prince Perfect was going to win, everyone, that is, except Hayseed!

My Review:

Hayseed’s First Race is written and Illustrated by Sally Schrock. I really enjoyed reading this book, as it is so important as parents to teach kids that they can be anything they want to be as long as they want it bad enough. Even kids will go through ups and downs in their life and as long as they know they have their parents love and support no matter what, they will strive to be their best. Sally did an amazing job teaching this lesson and the pictures are simple yet so descriptive as well. Sadie enjoyed reading this book with me and looking at the pictures. She commented on Hayseed’s shoes and the lipstick on one of the horses at the starting gate. (what a girl…)
