Blog Spotlight | Toronto Teacher Mom
I am running a feature spotlighting other Review & Giveaway Blogs. If you have one and would like to be featured, please email me at [email protected]
Today I would like to welcome Diana from Toronto Teacher Mom
. I had a chance to learn more about her blog and here’s what she had to say…
Please tell me about yourself.
I am a full-time elementary French teacher with two kids; a 4 year old daughter and a 22 month old son. When I wrote in my Blogger profile that I’m a 31-year-young kid-at-heart with a passion for languages, Latin rhythms and licorice, I meant it. I really do feel like a kid and can’t believe that I have two of my own! Crafts and cardmaking have also become a big part of my life, too.
Please tell me about your blog.
Toronto Teacher Mom is where I share stories about motherhood and teaching. From time to time, I talk about our family’s efforts to opt for organic/natural products where possible and what homeopathic/naturopathic remedies we have tried.
How long have you been blogging?
I started blogging in 2006 when I was on my first maternity leave. I took a year’s hiatus when I returned to work but my love of blogging was rekindled when I bought a Cricut machine and started my craft blog called Diana’s Designs Blog.
How did you get started?
I started blogging with the intent of recording memories and my daughter’s special milestones. It was also a way to share pictures with my family and friends, as well as connect with other moms, too. Over the past few months, I’ve been approached to sample products and try out services, write reviews and host giveaways. And I’m loving it!
What kinds of products do you feature on your blog?
Most of the products so far are natural or organic bath and body products. I’ve also tried out an online e-card service and have an upcoming giveaway for a children’s concert here in Toronto.
What was your favourite giveaway?
I’ve loved them all so far. I’ve discovered some great products I wouldn’t have otherwise tried and I have learned a lot, too. But I especially love promoting Canadian products.
Who does your blog appeal to?
I guess my general audience would be moms, which could further be narrowed down to Canadian moms in particular.
What direction do you see your blog going in the future?
In the future, I hope that Toronto Teacher Mom will host more exciting giveaways and provide more mom-friendly and eco-conscious product reviews. However, I still want to write about random moments in my family’s life that I would like to treasure forever.
What is the biggest challenge you have faced so far with your blog?
My biggest challenge as a full-time teacher and mom is trying to find the time to write posts. I’m not much of a fan of writing, or even reading, for that matter. So you know I really love blogging for me to have stuck with it for so long. I just wish I could keep up with all the exciting blogs that are popping up everywhere! (The laundry can always wait…)
What do you love about blogging?
The best thing about blogging is connecting with other people from the world over. It’s nice knowing that there are other mothers who go through similar situations. Another bonus has been working with some great sponsors. I’ve won a number of giveaways so it makes me all that more excited about hosting my own!
Do you have a blogging pet peeve?
My only real blogging pet peeve would be the anonymous comments that end up being spam.
Do you have any advice for the readers entering your giveaway? newbie review bloggers?
Sweepers: If you’re not in it, you can’t win it. Newbie reviewers: Keep it honest and keep it simple. Remember that not everyone will know all the jargon. I also think it’s important to make it personal. Anyone can copy and paste info from another site but adding your own photos and talking about your personal experience makes it that much more credible.
Tell me some of your favourite blogs that you read.
