Blog Spotlight | The Suburban Mom

I am running a feature spotlighting other Review & Giveaway Blogs. If you have one and would like to be featured, please email me at [email protected]

Today I would like to welcome Jen from The Suburban Mom. I had a chance to learn more about her blog and here’s what she had to say…
Please tell me about yourself.

I am TheSuburbanMom. I live in the heart of Suburbia, and my life revolves around my suburban family. Perhaps it was my recent birthday, when I turned (gasp) the big 3-0, but I have suddenly realized that I have become the quintessential Mom. And, more importantly, I am not alone and I LOVE it! So, who am I? I’m a SAHM, I’m a WAHM, I’m a WOHM. I’m thrifty, I’m green, I’m a toy-picking-up machine. I’m a woman, I’m a wife, I’m a Modern Momma. I am The Suburban Mom. Come read my tales of life in suburbia as a modern-day mom at

Please tell me about your blog.

My blog is me. I woke up one morning and realized how much my life had changed since the birth of my daughter, and how I was in LOVE with this new life. So, my blog is about being a mom in suburbia. To me that means, trying and reviewing products, stretching the family budget, stories about life with my family, DIY projects and more!

How long have you been blogging?

Since 2007, but only on since August 2009.

How did you get started?

I started blogging when I found out I was pregnant with my daughter (July 2007), I kept the blog like an online scrapbook documenting my pregnancy and all of the milestones in her life.

In August 2009, I decided to start to share with the world, and I am loving it!

What kinds of products do you feature on your blog? Products for kids, the family and me. I wish I had more time to read, I would love to review books, but I just don’t have the time. So, I will stick with day-to-day things.

What was your favourite giveaway?

My favorite giveaway so far was for SoftLips. I loved my SoftLips so it was easy to write about and fun to giveaway!

Who does your blog appeal to?

Moms. There are so many things that change in an instant with the birth of a child focus, humor, patience, and so much more. Suddenly women with no prior connection are bonded for life. My blog is about the new priorities that take over when children enter the picture. But I have had some wonderful compliments come from women in college and others who haven’t yet started a family, so there is a little for everyone.

What direction do you see your blog going in the future?

I see my blog becoming more interactive. I thrive on positive feedback and I crave a two-way street of knowledge. So, I hope to turn my blog into a community. I just did a major redesign of my blog, it needed more room for growth and I am excited about the new look.

Next, I really need a logo. That is my short-term goal.

What is the biggest challenge you have faced so far with your blog?

The biggest challenge I have faced is getting companies to take my blog seriously even though it is still so young. This isn’t here one day gone the next project, I am here to stay, so come visit! (Oh, and making money I am so not there yet!)

What do you love about blogging?

I LOVE to write. Writing is my first love, so this is an amazing outlet for me to write about anything I please. Along the way, I have even gotten some amazing freelance writing opportunities, so that has sweetened the deal for me.

Do you have a blogging pet peeve?

Not really. But I consider myself to be reasonably “green” so it makes me a crazy when I see trash cans filled with things that can easily be recycled. Especially in my own neighborhood, I know we have curb side recycling, so I just don’t get why people don’t care enough to recycle! It is such an easy thing we can all do to help the world be a better place!

Do you have any advice for the readers entering your giveaway? Newbie review bloggers?

Do not be afraid of taking advantage of multiple entries on giveaways. You can’t win if you don’t enter, and the more you enter the better your chances. I have won some great prizes at other blogs just by taking the time to enter.

To newbie review bloggers start writing. It takes time for companies to see you are serious, so don’t expect them lining at the door over night. Start by reviewing things you already use and love (or hate). Early on, I reviewed Banana Babies on my own because I LOVE them. The next day, I had a comment from the CEO who found my blog. That was cool!

Tell me some of your favourite blogs that you read.  of course

How can people find you?
