Blog Spotlight | BitsyBling’s Blog

I am running a feature spotlighting other Review & Giveaway Blogs. If you have one and would like to be featured, please email me at [email protected]

Today I would like to welcome Kelly from BitsyBling’s Blog and What’s Charlie Talking About. I had a chance to learn more about her blogs and here’s what she had to say…

Please tell me about yourself.
I recently published “Dandelions In The Garden,” a historical fiction novel about the infamous 16th century Hungarian blood countess, Elizabeth Bathory. I write under the nom de plume, Charlie Courtland. I graduated from the University of Washington with a B.A. in English Literature with an emphasis on creative writing, and a minor in Criminology. I’m originally from Michigan, and currently reside in the Seattle area with my husband and two children.

Please tell me about your blog.

“What’s Charlie Talking About?” is wide open. Everything is a potential target and topic. What makes it unique is I discuss current events from a creative writer’s perspective and with a sense of humor. I relate every day events and questions to writing subject matter, whether it is developing interesting characters, social concerns for plots, fads, theme, religion or techniques.

My other blog, “Bitsy Bling’s Book Review,” is a quirky free book review and recommendation blog. It gives the ‘gems’ and ‘flaws’ of each book submitted so a potential reader can make an informed decision. I started Bitsy’s Review because I was tired of other mainstream sites and sellers that promote fluff reviews. Most seem to be loaded with either zany great or are full of hate. As an avid reader, I want real details so I can decide whether a book is for me or not. I review all types of fiction from house and self-published authors.

How long have you been blogging?

I began my blogs in October of 2009

How did you get started?

It coincided with the release of my latest historical fiction novel. My book review blog developed in response to getting asked what I thought about a certain book, or what I recommended.

What kinds of products do you feature on your blog?

Books, books, and more books!

What was your favourite giveaway?

Autographed copies of my latest historical fiction novel through Goodreads. I was impressed with the entries and interest level. I will definitely do it again!

Who does your blog appeal to?
I hope my blog appeals to a wide variety of people because it addresses current events with a sense of humor, but also targets those who like to write and read whether they are students, novices, publishing or published.

What direction do you see your blog going in the future?

I’d like to have guest contributors and feature a range of authors and their creative works.

What is the biggest challenge you have faced so far with your blog?

Formatting. I’m learning very quickly how to write code.

What do you love about blogging?

Expressing my opinions and ideas. I use to talk to the dog, but now I can send my thoughts to cyberspace.

Do you have any advice for the readers entering your giveaway?

If you don’t win, truly consider buying the book anyways. It’s worth the money!

How can people find you?
