Blog Spotlight | Three Different Directions

I am running a feature spotlighting other Review & Giveaway Blogs. If you have one and would like to be featured, please email me at [email protected]

Please tell me about yourself.

My name is Tammy and I’m a 36 years old. I’ve been married for 15 years, and have a 13 year old daughter, whom I homeschool. I love to travel and I love Disney, so most of our vacations incorporate Disney in some way. Lately it’s been Disney cruises.

Please tell me about your blog.

Three Different Directions is mainly a product review and giveaway blog, but sometimes you’ll find me posting pictures of our vacations, or just giving information or tips on travel, safety and health.

How long have you been blogging?

I started my blog in March of 2008, and really started doing reviews and giveaways in January of 2009.

How did you get started?

I got started by listing other people’s giveaways, and then by being part of the first year of The Old Schoolhouse Magazine’s team of homeschool curriculum reviewers.

What kinds of products do you feature on your blog?

I feature everything from baby products to electronics. That may seem like a strange mix for someone with a 13 year old, but I’m also the coordinator of the nursery at my church, and so have plenty of ways to review products with infants and toddlers. I really like to review video games and Blu-Ray movies since those are things we can do as a family (and enjoy doing as a family!)

What was your favourite giveaway?

The $500 Wal-Mart gift card that I got to giveaway promoting their Your Zone Bedroom Line for Teens

Who does your blog appeal to?

All kinds of people! Through my statistics I do see though that a lot of women in the 35-40 range are visiting, but I do get young women, homeschool families, and men too.

What direction do you see your blog going in the future?

I hope to incorporate some more personal posts in the future months, especially after my upcoming Disney cruise in April. I’d like to be able to share my photos and adventures with the readers who come back each day! I also hope to be able to offer more big ticket items for review/giveaway, and hopefully sponsors will see that I do quality reviews and postings and feel value in sponsoring items on my site.

What is the biggest challenge you have faced so far with your blog?

Deciding whether to switch hosting. Since I can’t always be accessible to my blog when I’m gone traveling, I needed to make sure that I had a host that I could trust would be up, and that I could feel confident that I could pre-schedule posts and close comments all ahead of time from my dashboard. I switched to SquareSpace hosting at the beginning of the year, and feel that it has the ease of Blogger with the functionality of WordPress, and Customer Service second to none. I’ve been happy with my decision so far, and time will tell, whether I need to grow even more from there.

What do you love about blogging?

I love when I get comments and e-mails from readers even without having a giveaway going, or on a non-giveaway post. As a parent and consumer, I always look to the internet and really appreciate when bloggers put effort into their reviews so that I can see whether or not the $ I outlay for a product will be worth it or not.

Do you have a blogging pet peeve?

Google Page Rank and Alexa ratings lol! I know most companies go on your track record and not so much what those engines are saying, but it’s sometimes discouraging to work so hard and know that you are getting readers and visitors, but the inclusive engines like that don’t show it.

Do you have any advice for the readers entering your giveaway? newbie review bloggers?

For the readers, please, please for your sake, leave an e-mail address! Whether it is in the profile when you leave a comment or in the actual post body of the comment, we can’t tell you if you’ve won if you don’t leave a way to contact you! Also, read the rules. Obviously we want you to read the reviews also (that’s only courteous to the sponsor), but if the entry requires you to visit the site, or leave a product choice or follow on twitter, you’re really only wasting your time if you don’t do the entry, most bloggers will ditch your entry anyway. For newbie review bloggers, promote your blog, leave comments on other people’s blogs and link up where you can. Be content with the little items at first, the bigger ones will come with time, and don’t get discouraged, slow times come, there is lots of other content to blog about, use it!

Tell me some of your favourite blogs that you read.

I enjoy digital scrapbooking so I love looking at http://cbhscrapbookfreebiessearch.blogspot.com/ when I have time and you will find me shamelessly surfing the web to find blogs with Disney content.

How can people find you?

People can find me at http://www.threedifferentdirections.com and http://islandlife808.com where I do reviews and the Weekly Hot Links Column. I’m also on twitter as @threedifferent, and while I haven’t updated it a bit since I’m still trying to decipher Facebook’s policies concerning giveaways, my fan page there is http://www.facebook.com/pages/Three-Different-Directions-Win-Free-Giveaways/176282616258?ref=sgm.
