About the Book:
From Denise Austin comes the perfect health book for anyone who wants to live better but just can’t seem to find the time. Much more than just another exercise book, Denise’s Daily Dozen covers a whole range of health and diet related concepts yet manages it all in a no-stress, time-conscious program of 12’s. At it’s core, this book contains the minimum daily requirements to keep the reader flexible, strong and trim. Organized simply into seven chapters, which equal the seven days of the week, it covers a full week in daily allotments. Each day will have it’s own focus from Monday being “fat burning day” to Sunday’s “recharge and rejuvenate.”
Denise has created a total body program, including a 7-day balanced meal plan that includes healthy recipes, and a workout that encompasses 12 exercises done in 12 minutes each day. Everyone can take just 12 minutes, at whatever time of the day works for them, and turn it over to these simple and fun exercises. Cardio, toning, yoga and breathing exercises…they’re all here but in a way the maximizes effect while minimizing time.
Beyond a dozen exercises for each day of the week this book will include many other of Denise’s dozens for each day.
I have always taken an interest in books that promote diets, weight loss and exercise and I have tried many programs in the past with various results. I was excited to dive right into Denise’s Daily Dozen and learn more about her program.
I must say that this is an excellent resource to have on hand if you do need to lose a bit of weight or if you just want to be healthier in general. With the new year, many of us have made New Year’s Resolutions to lose 10 lbs or eat better and this book will help you do that. One of my resolutions is to eat better and less junk food and to get John eating better. He was used to eating really fattening foods so it has been trying for him to make the transition to a healthier lifestyle.
Denise’s Daily Dozen is a very quick read despite being over 300 pages. It is very well laid out and easy to follow and I love her writing style. It feels like she is talking directly to you. I like her tips and I found them very useful and some I haven’t heard before.
The book is broken down into two main parts- Getting Ready and The Plan. In Getting Ready, she explains the entire program so you can understand why it is you are doing what you will be doing, gives you a few exercises for fidgeting, releasing tension and getting great abs and answers some FAQs. The meat of the book comes in Part Two- The Plan. I love how organized it is and she sets out exactly what you need to do to complete the program successfully. Each day you are given a series of exercises to complete and a meal plan with recipes. There are also tips, checklists and stories and advice to keep you motivated.
I recommend reading the book first before starting the program so you can understand fully what you need to do. For myself, I wasn’t able to do all the exercises because of my chronic pain so I wasn’t able to go full force with the program as I would have liked to. The diet plan is a different story and I was able to follow most of Denise’s suggestions. I did cheat a few times though and my buttertart addiction got the best of me. Her recipes are great and have lots of healthy veggies and ingredients that are readily available. I hate those diets where you can only buy the ingredients if you live in a big city. I wouldn’t really call it a diet…more of a healthy lifestyle change.
If you are looking to lose some weight or just want to be healthier, then I fully recommend you pick up Denise’s Daily Dozen.
