Blog Spotlight | The Give-Away Diva

I am running a feature spotlighting other Canadian Review & Giveaway Blogs. If you have one and would like to be featured, please email me at [email protected]

Today I would like to welcome Nicole from The Give-Away Diva. I had a chance to learn more about her blog and here’s what she had to say…

Please tell me about yourself.

I am 21and live with my family in beautiful British Columbia (when it’s not raining! which it does all the time!!) I am the oldest and I have two younger sisters. I am currently a full time student going for my Bachelor of Commerce and I am specializing in Organizational Behaviour and Human Resources Management, with a minor in English Literature.

Please tell me about your blog.

My blog is The Giveaway Diva. I focus mainly on providing giveaways as well as doing reviews of different products. I have a bunch of posts on my daily life, but most of the time it’s giveaways and reviews! I don’t really have as much time as I like to update, but I hope this changes in the future!

How long have you been blogging?

I have been blogging for a little over a year now!

How did you get started?

One day I was bored and I was surfing around the Internet when I chanced upon a blog that was doing a giveaway, I entered for fun and was shocked when I won. The feeling of winning was totally addicting and I started entering more and more giveaways, and I actually seem to have awesome luck since I have won quite a lot! Then I realized that I should start a blog highlighting different giveaways on different blogs and did that for a while. I totally fell into hosting giveaways by accident, when one of my readers contacted me about having a giveaway for her products! My first giveaway had more than 150 entries and I realized that not a lot of blogs had that many entries, even if they had been hosting giveaways for a while so that must have meant that people were reading my blog and liking my posts. I contacted a sponsor and like they say the rest is history!!

What kinds of products do you feature on your blog?

I have featured mostly jewelry and skin care products, but I’m now diversifying my reviews and giveaways with such things as make-up, clothes, bags and yummy treats for your tummy!

What was your favourite giveaway?

My favourite giveaway has been my giveaway for a Tiffany necklace that is kind of a late celebration for my blog’s first birthday! It’s actually still going on and I’m kinda scared of having to pick the winner because I have no clue how I’m going to organize the almost 2000 entries!!!!

Who does your blog appeal to?

Most of my readers are from the States but I love the fact that I have people from all over the world! It really makes you feel connected and makes you feel as if you know these people. Mostly women read my blog and enter my contests but I do have some men entering into the fun as well!

What direction do you see your blog going in the future?

I would love to do more reviews and giveaways! I have just started doing reviews and I mainly had products that were jewelry. But I have made it a goal to diversify because as much as I love jewelry, you can get pretty tired of it and I also don’t want to be stuck in a rut! I have some great new products ranging from yummy treats to amazing bags that I will be reviewing, so I think I’m taking the right steps to achieving my goal!

What is the biggest challenge you have faced so far with your blog?

I think the biggest challenge is being Canadian because there are a lot of companies that won’t ship to Canada so it’s hard to do reviews! I also hate the fact that I have to limit who can enter my giveaways sometimes because many times my international readers aren’t able to enter! =( However, I do realize that it is better to be able to have the reader and share the wealth!

What do you love about blogging?

I love the people I get to meet! You get to meet some pretty cool people that you otherwise would never meet at all! I also love contacting the winners of my giveaways because they are so excited! And after winning quite a few giveaways myself I know the awesome feeling of getting an email stating that you won!

Do you have a blogging pet peeve?

I hate when people leave mean comments (thankfully I haven’t got any of those yet! I guess because who can hate on someone who is giving away great products?), I have seen some mean comments on some blogs before and that made me sad! Also there was this once instance when I had won a product and the blogger had contacted me on my blog about my win, and one of my readers was very very dishonest and contacted the blogger pretending that she was me!!!! Thankfully the blogger was smart and she questioned the reader and then sent me an email! That really hurt me personally because I spend all this time and effort finding sponsors for giveaways and not to mention all the hard work it takes to actually run the giveaway, and to know that someone would do that was horrible!

Do you have any advice for the readers entering your giveaway? newbie review bloggers?

In order to increase your odds of winning try to do as many entries as possible! Many blogs including my own has numerous ways to enter their giveaways so it’s always great to increase your odds! For newbie review bloggers I think that important thing is to be able to take rejection well, many companies may reject your requests for doing a review simply because you a newer blog that may not have the numbers but keep going and grow your blog and followers!

Tell me some of your favourite blogs that you read.

A guilty pleasure of mine is that I love reading Perezhilton, I just love his sarcastic view on the world! I truthfully love discovering new blogs and I love giveaway blogs of course!

How can people find you?

You can find my on my blog! Either leave a comment or you can contact me directly at [email protected]! I am always up to meeting new people and I promise I don’t bite!!
