Blog Spotlight | Tara’s View of the World
I am running a feature spotlighting other Canadian Review & Giveaway Blogs. If you have one and would like to be featured, please email me at [email protected]
Today I would like to welcome Tara from Tara’s View of the World and Tara’s View on Books. I had a chance to learn more about her blog and here’s what she had to say…
I am a pastor’s wife and mother of 3. My oldest son Aiden is 7 and has been diagnosed with high-functioning Autism and ADHD. My second son Owen is 6 and trying to win the prize for “loudest child ever”. My daughter just turned 3 and is delightfully girlie despite discovering her obstinate side this year. I am mostly a stay at home mom with a little work at home mom thrown in for good measure. I live in Northwest Ontario where is is a whopping -41 degrees today. Oh, and I am turning 34 years old on Christmas day this year.
Please tell me about your blog.
I blog about my daily life, the ramblings of my mind, the antics of my children, and whatever else I can come up with. I also do a ton of reviews and giveaways.
How long have you been blogging?
I have been blogging for just over 3 years.
How did you get started?
I originally started blogging as a way of journaling through bedrest and then my third bout of post partum depression. My husband actually introduced me to blogging and I quickly figured out that I LOVED it! It never occurred to me that it would grow into what it is today.
What kinds of products do you feature on your blog?
I review a wide range of products… everything from toys for kids to cleaning supplies. I also review/giveaway lots of books on my book blog.
What was your favourite giveaway?
I personally love giving away products from mom-run companies like Epicure Spices and aden + anais. I also love featuring Etsy and other hand-made goods shops. I think the most expensive giveaway I have done was for an HP Printer and that was pretty cool too.
Who does your blog appeal to?
I think mostly to other moms and women in general. I do have the occasional dad thrown in there too for good measure but I think all the pink flowers scare them off 🙂
What direction do you see your blog going in the future?
I honestly don’t know! I am really enjoying what I am doing now and I can only hope that more exciting companies will want to feature and giveaway their products on my blog. But I also want to keep the personal feel of my blog- sharing my life with my readers is fun for me.
What is the biggest challenge you have faced so far with your blog?
Keeping up. Sometimes it feels overwhelming just trying to keep up with all the products folks want me to review and it is definitely a challenge keeping up with my readers, answering their questions, responding to comments, visiting their blogs etc..
What do you love about blogging?
I love love LOVE all the great people I have met through blogging! I love the community bloggers have created. I also love the free stuff 🙂
Do you have a blogging pet peeve?
It drives me crazy when companies won’t include Canada in their giveaways etc.. It also drives me crazy when PR people contact me and ask me to review their products and then when they realize I am in Canada they back out… I have my Canadian status listed at the top of my profile on the front page of my blog so that just shows me a real lack of care on their part.
Do you have any advice for the readers entering your giveaway? newbie review bloggers?
My advice to readers entering my giveaways is to be creative with your comments and enter as many times as you can. When there are 600 entries and someone has left 30 comments and you only leave one than your odds of winning go waaaayyyy down.
My advice to newbie review bloggers is to not expect amazing stuff overnight. You have to work your way up by attracting more readers etc.. Give HONEST reviews. If I hate a product I contact the company and tell them honestly (but nicely) what I think and ask if they would still like me to post a review. If the product is really lame than I just flat out refuse to post about it. Be responsible though by contacting the PR person and explaining why you aren’t posting. Try not to be too selfish- promote things you like just because you like them without getting anything in return sometimes. Oh, and comment like crazy on other people’s blogs. And always advertise your giveaways on other sites.
How can people find you?
I have my contact information listed on my blog but I can also be found on Twitter ( http://twitter.com/tarasview ), facebook (http://www.facebook.com/tarasview ) and about a dozen other social networking sites!
