Blog Spotlight | MOmMy bRaIn
I am running a feature spotlighting other Canadian Blogs. If you have one and would like to be featured, please email me at [email protected]
Today I would like to welcome Jen from MOmMy bRaIn. I had a chance to learn more about her blog and here’s what she had to say…
Please tell me about yourself.
I am a 27 year old, first-time Mom of a beautiful seven month old baby girl. Being a Mom is more than I could have ever imagined. I had no idea what to expect and it has so far surpassed my dreams and expectations that I’m an emotional basket-case most days! When I’m not being a Mom, I’m working in the sales and marketing industry. After being laid off from my job as a pharmaceutical rep in my second trimester, I started blogging and became passionate about it immediately.
Please tell me about your blog.
My blog is called MOmMy bRaIn. My hubby gets the credit for the name as he’s the one who “suffers” through all my crazy mommy brain moments.. I’m pretty certain I lost full functioning of my brain upon conception – I don’t even get embarrassed anymore because these moments are so common nowadays. My blog is a good mix of updates on my life, advice from my own experiences and, lastly, begging for help from my followers on things I can’t seem to figure out. I keep things honest, straight-up and real. Some of my most popular series have been advice on preparing for your baby and my tips-n-tricks (for once baby arrives) which, of course, have worked for me but may cause hell at your house – every baby is different!
How long have you been blogging?
I started my blog in April of 2009.
How did you get started?
Throughout my pregnancy, I had been sending weekly updates with photos and nonsense to my family and friends. Towards the end of my pregnancy, I started hearing from friends and family that they had been fowarding the emails along to others and that I was getting quite a following! ha ha ha. So, my hubby (who is very tech-savvy) suggested a blog and I was totally on board as I needed a hobby to keep me from eating my weight in food everyday!
What kinds of products do you feature on your blog?
Mostly Mommy and baby-related gear. I’m organizing some great giveaways for 2010 including a Burt’s Bees giveaway, Children’s Book Club Memberships and Birth Announcements. Recently, I became a member of the “Mom Panel” for PTPA (Parent Tested Parent Approved) and I am very excited about offering reviews for all sorts of new Mommy-related products!
What was your favourite giveaway?
In December we had a Moody Mamas Giveaway for almost $200 worth of Maternity clothes from a stylish Maternity line from the US. It was awesome!
Who does your blog appeal to?
Most of my “followers” are new Moms or Moms-to-be. However, I often hear that even single girls are regularly checking out my blog because they find it entertaining! All of us girls love to think about the future. So, I think, if you’re looking forward to a family of your own, you’ll enjoy reading about someone else’s honest adventures!
What direction do you see your blog going in the future?
In a dream world, I would become the world’s most famous Mommy-Blogger and I could turn blogging into my full-time job so I could continue writing and spending my days with my gorgeous daughter who is often my inspiration! Realistically… I will continue to write honestly, provide helpful advice when I can and try to give you a good chuckle, if nothing else.
What is the biggest challenge you have faced so far with your blog?
Finding the time. Since the day I started the blog, I have written daily. Sometimes it’s a blessing and sometimes it’s a curse. I feel pressure to write a daily post, even when things are INSANE which they often are with a 7 month old! I just recently let my followers know that I may (may being the key word) have to cut back to 3-4 times a week. Yet, I’ve written every day since I said that…
What do you love about blogging?
For me, blogging is like my little conversation with my girlfriends every day. It keeps me sane. I used to love writing in school but kind of let it go once I entered the “real world”… I have enjoyed getting back to things I’m passionate about since being off work.
Do you have a blogging pet peeve?
It drives me bonkers when people leave a comment disagreeing with you or calling you out on something anonymously. I always want to discuss things with these people so we can understand each other’s opinions or so I can explain myself a little further (if there’s been a misunderstanding) but I have no way to contact them if they don’t comment under a profile or name.
Do you have any advice for the readers entering your giveaway? newbie review bloggers?
Entering my giveaways is pretty easy. I usually ask you to comment on the post – not anonymously obviously because “The Winner Is Anonymous” doesn’t work! Then a few clicks of the mouse and you’re in! I try to make it easy as I know, for myself, I see lots of great giveaways but I rarely have the time to jump through hoops. 🙂 Advice for new bloggers? Be honest. Be yourself. And understand that everyone is not going to agree with you all the time… and that doesn’t make either of you wrong!
Tell me some of your favourite blogs that you read.
Swell Little Life – Ange is great and her little Chloe is so sweet.
Lainey Gossip – way too addicted to celebrity nonsense than I should be.
Smonk You: A Pre-Daddy Blog – Kenny is hilarious
A Baby Story – Kayla is fab.
Adjusting to the World – Jessica is a beautiful writer. She writes notes to her daughter Leah that will make you cry they are so sweet!
