Blog Spotlight | Lucky Canuck
I am running a feature spotlighting other Canadian Review & Giveaway Blogs. If you have one and would like to be featured, please email me at [email protected]
I am 32 y/o, married, no kids, one cat. I live in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I used to work in healthcare as a medical transcriptionist and as an admin assistant in the past until I was laid off in April 2009. I have been involved in contesting for several years now and still love to contest, however, blogging takes up the majority of my time so I am not able to devote the necessary time to it as before.
Please tell me about your blog.
Lucky Canuck was originally started as a way for me to gain entries for blog giveaways and contests. From there it evolved into the current blog that it is – a product review and giveaway blog with additional bits of info about other blog giveaways and contests, trivia, recipes, coupons, deals, and tips on a variety of things.
How long have you been blogging?
I have been blogging since 2007 although more seriously since April 2009.
How did you get started?
As mentioned above, Lucky Canuck was originally a way for me to gain extra entries in blog giveaways and contests. I simply saw the opportunities for some amazing prizes on many blogs and thought that if I had a blog to post about these giveaways that i would be able to win more prizes. Started with Blogger.com and went from there.
What kinds of products do you feature on your blog?
So far I have featured a variety of things from books to soaps to toys and baby supplies to teas and skin care. Just about anything so long as it is family-friendly.
What was your favourite giveaway?
My favourite giveaway so far would have to have been the Hellman’s Holiday Helpings with Bobby Flay simply because I saw how popular that was with people. I had the largest response to this contest for a $25 American Express Gift Card.
Who does your blog appeal to?
I think Lucky Canuck will appeal to moms and dads, contestors, people looking for info about new up and coming products, anyone looking for deals and coupons, or homemakers.
What direction do you see your blog going in the future?
I would like to see Lucky Canuck grow a larger audience and reach with Lucky Canuck becoming a recognized product review and product giveaway site for everyone on the web.
What is the biggest challenge you have faced so far with your blog?
For me so far just trying to learn blog management such as html and such has been my biggest challenge. I am not trained in any way, shape, or form for web design and as such have had to simply put my head down and figure it out along with the help from some great fellow bloggers.
What do you love about blogging?
What I love about blogging is being able to really help people and give them info on products that they may not be familiar with. I love being able to inform my audience about important issues such as the Baby Formula Case and the Tylenol Arthritis Recall and knowing that I am helping them.
Do you have a blogging pet peeve?
For me my blogging pet peeve is when people try to cheat on the blog giveaways. I HATE cheaters! I am a contestor at heart and it just disgusts me that people are so underhanded. Also, absolutely HATE when people do not read my directions for giveaways. Pay attention people!
Do you have any advice for the readers entering your giveaway? newbie review bloggers?
Advice would be: READ THE DIRECTIONS carefully or you risk being disqualified. Plus, make sure I can contact you in case you are a winner. If I cannot contact someone, they will lose out and I will draw another person’s name. For newbie review bloggers definitely do some research into blogging networks and product review/giveaway groups such as momdot.com, The Product Review Place, etc.
How can people find you?
People can find me on
