Blog Spotlight | Health, Beauty & Family
I am running a feature spotlighting other Review & Giveaway Blogs. If you have one and would like to be featured, please email me at [email protected]
Today I would like to welcome Judy from Health, Beauty & Family. I had a chance to learn more about her blog and here’s what she had to say…
Please tell me about yourself.
I’m a mom to five from ages 21, 17, 15, 6 and 2. I’m married to an Army officer who will be deploying to Kuwait in May for a year. Just in the last three years, this will be his third deployment. My two step children live in Texas with their mother and my two youngest have chronic medical conditions that started in 2008. My oldest works and attends college and is a blessing in so many ways. Prior to moving to Georgia, two and a half year’s ago, we lived in beautiful Hawaii which I really miss.
I am a telecommuter for a pharmaceutical company and have been working there for over 12 years. I hope to attend law school once we relocate within a year as the Army moves you every three years or so.
Please tell me about your blog.
My blog is catered to women and “mommy’s” to provide information and share experience on topics from health, beauty, children and family. I also focus heavily on product reviews and giveaways. I also include personal information as it’s fun to show off my family and my daughter’s grandmother lives in Australia who actively reviews my site. She also contributes to my other blog that focuses only on book reviews.
I have a total of five women available to review products and provide their input.
How long have you been blogging?
I started on July 27th, 2009 and went full force in August.
How did you get started?
I started first by trying to save a buck with the various coupon and money saving sights particularly Nicole’s Nickels and Saving with Shellie (both are in my favorites). As I kept finding more, I found my way to product reviews and giveaways and decided it looked like fun sharing experiences, trying out products and more importantly, giving them away. I always heard about blogging but never knew what it was until July of 2009.
What kinds of products do you feature on your blog?
My products range from beauty, health (to include organic), toys/games and books.
What was your favourite giveaway?
My favorite giveaway was for Therafirm Socks because the entries were all from people needing this type of sock. Being able to help people was a nice bonus. I also have to say the Christmas giveaways were nice as many of the winners wrote very appreciative thank you’s as they didn’t have the money to buy gifts this year. One winner told me how they didn’t have the money to buy their son gifts so I also sent a $40 e-gift card from Amazon. Of course, Eden Fantasys is always fun to giveaway!
Who does your blog appeal to?
Women and mom’s.
What direction do you see your blog going in the future?
I would like to grow and have more reviews and giveaways and find ways to help other bloggers and women based businesses. I think it’s about giving back however you can. I have a section on my blog for party themes and right now, I’m trying to incorporate products from Etsy sellers to give them exposure as well as Ebay. I would also like to include some guest bloggers to grow the expertise of the site.
What is the biggest challenge you have faced so far with your blog?
My biggest challenge is finding products to giveaway. I have learned quickly how to contact businesses but it’s time consuming to do so. I have learned to track everything via Word to ensure I’m not late on a review or to know who my past winners are.
What do you love about blogging?
I love blogging about my children but now that I’ve reached my 40’s, I am on a path of well being so topics involving health, organic living, anti-aging, weightloss are all important to me.
Do you have a blogging pet peeve?
My only pet peeve is when notifying a winner that they won, the only response is the name and address. No “hello,” no “thank you.”
Do you have any advice for the readers entering your giveaway? newbie review bloggers?
My only advice as winners are chosen by random.org so niceness doesn’t factor in although it’s more pleasant to read is to make sure you follow the directions for entering giveaways. If it states you have to follow my blog, please follow my blog and don’t say you did.
Newbie reviewers: Plan a good blog and think about what you really want to cater to and make sure your name goes along with that. I would never have chosen the name “youthfultips” had I realized where I’d have ended up. Build your blog with some content before reaching out to the PR reps of the world. Follow blogs you like and ask questions as most bloggers love to give help to one another. Join the various groups like TwitterMoms, GlobalInfluence, The Product Review Place, MomBloggerClub, MyblogSpark and many more to take advantage of all the great groups out there providing their support, advice and experience.
Tell me some of your favourite blogs that you read.
In no particular order and I’m sure I’m missing some of my other favorites:
