Blog Spotlight | Crumbs in the Minivan

I am running a feature spotlighting other Canadian Blogs. If you have one and would like to be featured, please email me at [email protected]

Today I would like to welcome Cynthia from Crumbs in the Minivan. I had a chance to learn more about her blog and here’s what she had to say…

Please tell me about yourself.

I’m an upper-thirty-something mom of three crazy and fun-loving kids: Suvi is 7, Max is 4 and Finnegan is 2. I walked away from a career in marketing and fundraising to stay home and be a coffee-addicted mom after having child number two. Of course, I began slowly going crazy with no outlet so I started a part-time freelance writing business for myself a few years ago to help keep my fingers (and brain!) functional. My best days are spent laughing with my kids, playing music with my hubby and reading a great book. Eating would be right up there, too.

Please tell me about your blog.

Crumbs in the Minivan (http://crumbsintheminivan.blogspot.com) is a blog about the hilarity, frustration and inspiration found in parenthood, with a little music, entertainment and “taking care of mom” stuff thrown in for good measure. I usually use the blog as a therapeutic outlet and can often end up laughing about something once I’ve written it out. Most of the time, I’d say I laugh when I write the blog. Hopefully readers are laughing along with me. (not just at me).

How long have you been blogging?

I’ve been blogging since somewhere in 2008. I’ve since written over 300 posts so I guess that means I have some really meaningful stuff to say. Or have participated in a lot of memes to make my NaBloPoMo commitments.

How did you get started?

A friend of mine who has her own mom blog suggested I look into it. I had really enjoyed reading hers and thought it would be fun to try one of my own, giving myself that outlet for writing something purely conversational and fun. It was also a great way to share some fun and silly episodes from my kids lives with family who do not live near us.

What kinds of products do you feature on your blog?

I don’t feature products, but I do include the occasional review and giveaway, if it’s something I feel is appropriate for the blog. I have reviewed books, entertainment events, food and electronics. Things that relate to me as a mom with a family.

What was your favourite giveaway?

I just gave away a Flip Ultra HD camcorder over the Christmas holidays. That was definitely my favourite giveaway so far!

Who does your blog appeal to?

Moms, mostly, I think. Moms with a sense of humour. Any parent, really, who doesn’t mind laughing at parenthood. In fact, I think there are a number of single women who also read the blog hopefully I’m not scaring them off too much from the crazy world of mommyhood!

What direction do you see your blog going in the future?

I think I’ll stay on the same track for now but I hope to see more readers (and more commenters!) as I have really enjoyed the social aspect of blogging. I try my best to personally respond to every comment that hits my blog (as long as an email address is provided!). I have been amazed at some of the fantastic, interesting and funny people I’ve met because of my blog and other blogs.

What is the biggest challenge you have faced so far with your blog?

Sometimes coming up with content is tough. I try to commit to NaBloPoMo every once in a while to keep me in the habit of writing. One other challenge is keeping up with all of the other fantastic blogs I love to read!

What do you love about blogging?

Making people laugh or think and having others do the same for me. The social aspect of blogging is fantastic, especially when you get to meet fellow blogging Canadians! Also, being able to document some of my kids lives for posterity. I hope to make a book for them at some point with all of the blog posts. I think it would make for a wonderful keepsake.

Do you have a blogging pet peeve?

I guess it’s more of a commenting pet peeve but I can’t stand when people come around to blogs and just comment for the sake of advertising themselves. It’s clear they haven’t even really read the post and they’re just trying to get attention.

Tell me some of your favourite blogs that you read.

There are so many! I probably consistently read about 30 blogs and it’s tough keeping up with them! My list of recent favourites is on my blog.

How can people find you?
