Confessions of an Over Worked Mom

Today I would like to welcome Ellen from Confessions of an Overworked. Mom. I had a chance to learn more about her blog and here’s what she had to say…

Please tell me about yourself:

My name is Ellen. I’m a 43 year old, married mom of two children (ages 12 and 16) who lives in Vermont. We have two rural acres and are novice homesteaders/survivalists. I work full time and run two online businesses as well.

Please tell me about your blog:

My blog is Confessions of an Overworked Mom. The blog started as a way for us to chronicle our attempts at homesteading so you’ll find posts about our gardens, ducks, and chickens as well as posts about wildcrafting, herbalism, baking bread, and stacking wood. As the blog evolved, I started including posts about products that we loved and offering giveaways.

How long have you been blogging.

I’ve been blogging for a couple of years. My first blog was an offshoot of my homemade crafts site and it was difficult to maintain. I’ve been blogging at Confessions of an Overworked Mom for about a year.

How did you get started?

I wanted a way to look back and see if we were meeting our goals for the homestead. I also wanted to be able to see what varieties of plants, veggies & herbs worked best for us in our garden and how many of our goals on our to do list were actually getting accomplished.

What kind of products do you feature on your blog?

I’m very passionate about natural/organic living and homesteading. Because these things are so important to us, I try to stay true to the heart of our beliefs. I often wear so many hats during the day so time/money saving products are often featured as well.

What was our favourite giveaway?

Honestly, my favorite so far is the $50 gift certificate from NOVICA that I have going on right now. I just love fair trade products and NOVICA is just an amazing site!

Who does your blog appeal to?

Because I started out posting mainly about homesteading and survalist topics, many of my followers share our lifestyle. But my blog also appeals to anyone looking for a more simple lifestyle. Of course, anyone looking for reviews or giveaways will find lots to read on my blog as well.

What direction do you see your blog going in the future?

Honestly, I hope to stay on the same track I’m on now. I’d love to offer more reviews and giveaways to my readers as well.

What is the biggest challenge you have faced so far with your blog?

I’d say that staying true to the purpose of my blog has been hardest. I’ve been contacted to review a number of books & products that just don’t fit in with what we believe in. While it’s tempting to accept them just to offer a giveaway, I think it’s important to focus on our original goal for the blog.

What do you love about blogging?

I love writing and sharing my thoughts with other people. It’s a wonderful way to get a glimpse into other people’s lives and to share our life with people that might be curious about how we live.

Do you have a blogging pet peeve?

Hmm … that’s a hard one. I’d say it’s probably people who comment on posts only to try to sell you something. Spammers are a nuisance in my book.

Do you have any advice for the readers entering your giveaway?

Don’t give up. I love entering contests and have won some great prizes that way. Just keep on posting and eventually you’ll win.

Newbie review bloggers?

Find your niche. There are so many blogs out there that are nothing but giveaways that I think to be noticed, you have to offer a little something more. Explore your passions & write about what you love.

Tell me some of your favorite blogs that your read.

Sure. Here are my two favorites.
