Blog Spotlight | Callista’s Ramblings
I am running a feature spotlighting other Canadian Review & Giveaway Blogs. If you have one and would like to be featured, please email me at [email protected]
Today I would like to welcome Kathleen from Callista’s Ramblings. I had a chance to learn more about her blog and here’s what she had to say…
Please tell me about yourself.
I’m a 20 something mom of two who spends her time reading and blogging. I’m also a Girl Guide Leader.
Please tell me about your blog.
Callista’s Ramblings has changed a lot throughout the time it’s been around. It started out as a personal blog to post about giveaways I entered and fun quizzes I took. Then I started posting my opinions on topics and the occasional rant. I quickly ran out of something to say though. I chose not to post about my children although I enjoy reading about other bloggers children. Now it’s morphing into a review blog but also I like to post about new services and anything I have an opinion on still. I’d like to think of it as an informational blog.
How long have you been blogging?
I’ve been blogging for a litle over 2 years although I must say it feels like longer. I had webpages on Geocities before that but nothing with regularly updated content.
How did you get started?
I reviewed books I read for amazon.com and one day ran across a book blog and decided that’s what I wanted to do. So I transfered my reviews over and got working on that. A few months later I decided I needed another blog for other topics (see question 2 as well.)
What kinds of products do you feature on your blog?
I’m still fairly new at featuring products. I mostly feature cleaning and household supplies, health care, food and some DVDs. In the future I’d like to feature more toys and products that appeal to children, families and women.
What was your favourite giveaway?
It’s a toss up between the Swiffer Wet-Jet and the Oral-B Triumph Electric Toothbrush
Who does your blog appeal to?
My blog appeals to stay-at-home women with families, especially Canadians, who are looking for information on products, services and websites of interest.
What direction do you see your blog going in the future?
I’d like to see myself posting more regularily with more reviews but also more opinion posts. I’d also like to feature more Canadian products and services.
What is the biggest challenge you have faced so far with your blog?
Balancing life and blogging is hard. I never seem to have enough time to keep up with the blogs yet there are women who work AND have children and still keep up with their blogs. It’s hard not to compare yourself to other bloggers too much.
What do you love about blogging?
I love getting feedback from others about what I think. Unfortunately I don’t get many comments yet but I hope that changes.
Do you have a blogging pet peeve?
Having a whole bunch of post ideas one time and then a whole lot of nothing after that. I don’t like posting every day for one week and then once total the next.
Do you have any advice for the readers entering your giveaway? newbie review bloggers?
To readers entering ANY giveaway, make sure you read the rules at least twice over to make sure you do it right. Lots of people aren’t counted when picking a winner because they didn’t follow the bloggers rules. Every giveaway is not done the same, not even on the same blog.
I’m still fairly new at reviewing but for new review bloggers I’d say don’t be afraid to approach companies. If you exhude self confidence they will take you seriously. Even if they say no, it’s not the end of the world.
Tell me some of your favourite blogs that you read.
