Blog Spotlight | Emily’s Latest
Today I would like to welcome Emily from Emily’s Latest . I had a chance to learn more about her blog and here’s what she had to say…
Please tell me about yourself.
I’m an artist by profession, an oil painter, which means working at home, which I love. My work keeps me pretty busy as I am lucky enough to exhibit my paintings in a few galleries in Canada as well as overseas in Switzerland. I also love cooking, baking, sewing and that sort of thing. I think I’m just one of those people who likes to make things. I also love to read and go through about three books a week. I live in southern Ontario with my husband and dog. We’re hoping to start a family soon but we have had a few troubles along the way… Blogging has helped me in dealing with that, I think.
Please tell me about your blog.
My blog is roughly half about my life and random stuff I’m thinking about, and half about giveaways and product reviews. It’s kind of a mix 🙂
How long have you been blogging?
Since about February of 2009. Nearly a year!
How did you get started?
I started blogging mainly to enter giveaways, but it has grown into a lot more. I’ve gone through a pretty tumultuous year and it’s all been chronicled in the blog. I’ve graduated to hosting my own giveaways, too, which is really fun!
What kinds of products do you feature on your blog?
I’m a foodie, a mama-wannabe and otherwise your average thirty-something woman. I care about the environment, I’m vegetarian, I read a lot, cook a lot and I have to admit I think about baby stuff a lot. So mostly products that fit into one or more of those categories!
What was your favourite giveaway?
From ones I’ve entered, I loved one on the Lipstick To Crayons blog for Boob maternity wear. At the time I was pregnant and I was lucky enough to win some great Boob maternity & nursing clothing. It’s super quality and very stylish too. I can hardly wait to have the chance to wear it!
From ones I’ve hosted, Affordable Baby Organics was great to work with.
Who does your blog appeal to?
Good question! Hmm, should I do a demographic survey?! I would think people who are like me. I have one or two guys in my followers, but it’s mainly women in their 20s and 30s, I think.
What direction do you see your blog going in the future?
I would love to do more product reviews and giveaways… (I have some coming up!). Honestly the best thing I can imagine is going from a wannabe-mama blog to a mama blog!
What is the biggest challenge you have faced so far with your blog?
I think the biggest challenges have been technical… I know it’s not the fanciest blog but simple things like getting it to three columns and just sorting out some of the technical glitches has been an adventure. Luckily some of my readers have helped me out whenever I’ve had problems! They are amazing people.
What do you love about blogging?
I absolutely love the community and the chance to connect with other people. I love all the things I have learned from other bloggers, from different traditions, recipes, baby stuff (cloth diapering is not nearly as much of a mystery), oh, the list could go on and on!
Do you have a blogging pet peeve?
Um, maybe a couple. The drama… We’re not in high school anymore! Also, I wish more bloggers that host giveaways would post winners and make that list easy to find 🙂
Do you have any advice for the readers entering your giveaway? newbie review bloggers?
For giveaways, just read and follow the entry directions! It’s not that hard 🙂 I always do extra entry options take advantage of them! For newbie review bloggers… Well I kind of still feel like a newbie myself. But I guess my advice would be just to be and write your own original content. Do some reviews on your own of products that you actually use. Eventually the companies really do come to you!
Tell me some of your favourite blogs that you read.
I read about 150 blogs… I’m crazy like that… I do like the Canadian ones as I feel a connection to them, no matter how tenuous 🙂 I don’t really want to pull out just a couple favourites, but generally – the ones I read regularly, I have their buttons on my blog for some quick links.
How can people find you?
I haven’t gone the FaceBook route yet for the blog (I just, finally, started one for my artwork). And Twitter just seems too chaotic for me. I know, everyone ‘else is doing it. Maybe one day! For now, it’s just the blog!
