I am working on teaching my daughter, Bridget, the importance of learning to clean up after herself. Sometimes I felt like I was talking to a brick wall because she just wasn’t getting the message. I would find myself repeating the same thing over and over until she would finally do it. Needless to say, it was stressful for us both. I needed to find a system to get her to do her chores that actually worked.
I had the opportunity to review the Do-N-Slide by Our Kids to Yours for the past several months and I can tell you that I have finally found something that is working well for our family. The Do-N-Slide is a picture to do list that you can put various chores that you want your child to accomplish in the “To Do” slot. Then after your child completes the activity, he/she can slide over the picture into the “All Done” slot. The Do-N-Slide is the brainchild of two young moms, Zoe and Kim, who recognized the needs of both parents and kids for structure, harmony and organization within the home. I know things are much less chaotic in our home when there is order and routine and my kids thrive on it.
The neat thing about the Do-N-Slide is that it includes packs to help out with various life circumstances. I received the Toddler’s Day Conversion Pack which includes the picture symbols “wash hands”, “go to park”. If you are potty training your child, you can get the Potty Training Conversion Pack. My kids are too old for that one now, but I am sure it would have been a big incentive and make potty training more fun.
Bridget loves her Do-N-Slide and looks forward to seeing what pictures I will put on her “To Do” list for the day. She gets satisfaction after accomplishing her little tasks and enjoys sliding her task over after it is completed. Some examples of the tasks are “Put Toys Away”, “Make Bed” and “Clear Table”. The Do-N-Slide includes the Do-N-Slide board, 20 preprinted cards, 6 blank cards (for you to add your own tasks that don’t already have a card), 7 days of the week cards and a durable plastic storage pocket to hold the cards. We keep theDo-N-Slide in the kitchen so Bridget can see it and I change the cards each day to reflect her chores for the day. It’s so easy to use and it works and both Bridget and I enjoy using our Do-N-Slide.
The Do-N-Slide is affordable at $19.99 and can be purchased online. I think it is a great investment and its positive effects will be long lasting. I definitely recommend this product to moms and dads.
