I asked Joanne, the owner of Sweet Surrender Candles a few questions to get to know her and her business.
Please tell me about yourself.
I am a single mother of a grown daughter and was in the mortgage business 23 years. I have lived in 8 states – and have been in Michigan since 1996 – but not too fond of the winters here and hope my next move is to somewhere warmer! I have always had not only an entrepreneurial drive, but a creative desire. I crochet and also have an interest in photography. I dabble in jewelry too. But my real passion has been scented items.
Please tell me about your business.
I started making candles in 2000 after doing a lot of research. I used to buy so many I thought it would pay to make my own! Then I got so addicted to making them – I had to sell them to make room in my home! Once it became a business – it just grew and grew from there. Now I carry over 500 scents and make many size of candles, tarts, melts, tea lights and even some bath and body items! I am a true scentaholic – and enjoy learning many new products when I can – like body butters, lotion bars, etc! My business had grown to not only having my own website – but selling in half a dozen or more other sites – many of which have really kept me busy. I have also developed many loyal return customers – and met some great folks!
What inspires you?
Anything to pamper myself (or others) with. Whether it’s a scent for a room or a body, something for a relaxing bath or to moisturize your skin – I want to make it – and make the best.
Joanne has graciously offered one of my readers a dozen tealights in their scent of choice.
