I was contacted by ColorMe Company to do a product review of the ColorMe Pillowcase. I checked out their website and knew this would be the perfect activity for my four year old daughter Bridget to do. She is very artistic and loves to draw and colour. On a side note, if you notice that I spell “colour” differently, it’s because I’m Canadian!
The Story of ColorMe Company
First I want to give you a bit of background on this great company so you can get a better feel for their products. ColorMe Company was founded in 2003 by Dr. Paul Marciano, a child clinical psychologist. His inspiration came from his goddaughter’s colouring on a Christmas card which made him realize that the traditional greeting cards you can buy in the stores are not fun or meaningful for children. He created the “coloring card” which combines the thoughtfulness of a greeting card and the fun of a colouring book. Kids loved the idea of co-creating the card and making it into a one-of-a-kind keepsake where every card is a work of heart.
ColorMe Company expanded its product line to include t-shirts, pillowcases and seasonal items like Halloween bags and Christmas stockings. These products follow the same ideas as the cards allowing children to be creative and make personalized keepsakes. All the designs on the products are drawn by children and children can actually submit their artwork through their website! How cool would that be for a child to see their artwork on pillowcases used by countless numbers of children! All products are 100% manufactured in the US and they are a proud American company doing their part to keep money in the American economy and children’s products safe.
Another aspect of ColorMe Companythat is fantastic is that donate 10% of the the total GROSS proceeds to children’s charities (that’s before taxes too- wow!) This fact makes them truly unique and they may be the only for-profit company in the world to have such a generous and transparent policy. Thumbs up here from me to ColorMe Company!
I was sent the Beach Girl Pillowcase ($24.95 value) which includes one 100% cotton pillowcase with colourable design plus three matching postcards, crayons, fabric markers and directions. The pillowcase was a good size and fit her pillow perfectly. The cotton was very high quality and definitely not that cheap feeling cotton that you sometimes find. I was impressed and it felt like it would be soft to put your head on.
I set up Bridget in the living room on the floor and put a towel underneath the pillowcase just to be safe. Bridget was so excited to get started! She thought it was neat that she would be able to colour on something that would normally be off limits. She enjoyed using all the different colours and spent a good 45 minutes on this project while I relaxed on the couch with some book. It definitely kept her busy so I can enjoy some much needed “me” time!
When she was finished, she had made a very lively drawing! She was proud of her work and couldn’t wait to put it on her bed. Before I could do that I had to set the ink by putting it in the dryer on high for 30 minutes as per the directions. Then ta-da! Bridget slept on her creation last night and then today asked if she could do another! ColorMe Company has a thumbs up from both Bridget and me and thank you for this opportunity!
