A few years ago, I was working on a family cookbook to give to my oldest daughter. I asked my family to share their best recipes so that I could compile all the best ones!

I forgot about the cookbook until I was going through things recently and ran across my Aunt Debbie’s Cream Cheese Fruit Tart recipe. And boy am I glad I found it again!

This recipe is delectable! Now, the filling is really what makes this recipe. It’s creamy, smooth, and sweet (but not too sweet). These bite-sized tarts are the perfect dessert to whip up when you’re craving something sweet, but are also a great transportable dessert for parties. Plus, the vibrant colors make these treats stand out on any dessert table.

    • Tart Shells: I use frozen tart shells to save time, but you can totally make your own tart shells too.
    • Cream Cheese: I recommend a full-fat block of cream cheese, softened before mixing.
    • Sweetened Condensed Milk: The sweetness of sweetened condensed milk balances out the tangy flavor of the cream cheese perfectly.
    • Flavorings: We’re giving the filling the perfect flavor with a little bit of vanilla extract and lemon juice.
    • Fresh Fruit: I use mixed berries on mine, but feel free to use whatever combination of fruit you like best.

What to Serve with Cream Cheese Fruit Tarts

These cream cheese fruit tarts are an excellent addition to a dessert table at your next party! Here are some other delicious sweet treats to serve alongside them:

    Recipe Tips and Tricks

    • Wash and dry the fruit. I like to give the mixed berries a good rinse, then dry them thoroughly before adding them to the tarts.
    • Leave plenty of time to chill. I recommend a full 3 hours of chilling time in the fridge for the tarts before you add the fruit topping. This gives the cream cheese filling plenty of time to set.
    • Avoid fruit that discolors quickly if you’re planning on letting the tarts sit out for a bit. That includes fruit such as apples or bananas.

    Variations and Substitutions

    • Use other fruit. I love the mixed berry tart, but feel free to layer on other fruits such as kiwi, pineapple or mandarin oranges.
    • Make jam tarts. Swap the fresh fruit out for a dollop of your favorite fruit jam.
    • Add other toppings. Give your tarts a nutty crunch by sprinkling them with some sliced almonds, layer on a little bit of toasted coconut, or finish them off with some whipped cream.

How Long Does a Fruit Tart Last in the Fridge?

Fully assembled fruit tarts can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for 1-2 days. For the best results, I recommend storing the tarts without the fruit, then adding fruit just before serving. The tarts without the fruit can be stored in the fridge for 3-4 days.

    Can these be frozen?

No, I don’t recommend freezing these tarts. The texture of the cream cheese and fruit will not hold up when thawed.

What is the Difference Between a Fruit Tart and a Fruit Pizza?

The difference between a fruit tart and a fruit pizza is mainly in the size. Fruit tarts are a smaller, one or two-bite dessert, while a fruit pizza is prepared in the size of a pizza, then cut into slices.

What is Cream Cheese Filling Made Of?

Our cream cheese filling is made with a combination of cream cheese and sweetened condensed milk flavored with a splash of vanilla extract and lemon juice.

The cream cheese gives the filling its structure, the sweetened condensed milk adds sweetness to offset the tangy flavor of the cream cheese, the vanilla adds flavor depth, and the lemon juice provides a touch of brightness.

The ingredients are simple, but each adds just the right amount of flavor to the filling.

Can I freeze the excess cream?

      1. You can, but the texture might change a bit and be less creamy. Freezing cream cheese is finicky!

    2. 4 stars
Mine were a bit too lemony but I will just cut back on the 1/4 cup by 1 tsp. Definitely will make again and have already shared the recipe.
