I’m not ashamed to admit that every week I tune in to watch my favorite guilty pleasure, Pretty Little Liars. It’s an ABC Family show that airs on Tuesday nights at 8/7c. If this is the first time you’ve even heard about the show, let me provide you with a little bit of background on it.
Spencer, Aria, Emily, and Hannah are estranged friends who reunite once they begin receiving mysterious text messages and notes signed “A.” The person stalking them claims to have information about the death of a friend they had in common: Alison. Whoever is contacting them knows private things about each of them, things that only Alison would have known. Does this mean their friend is still alive, or could one of the girls be “A” herself?
Now in its fourth season, Pretty Little Liars has fans asking even more questions. I’ve been watching faithfully, but thanks to Connect Your Home sending me a copy of season three, I’ve been able to go back and try to pick up on things that I maybe missed watching the first time through.
Season 3 of Pretty Little Liars
First of all, I love the slim packaging of Pretty Little Liars. I collect a lot of my favorite TV shows on DVD, but they start to take up a lot of space. This set is no wider than a regular DVD, so I don’t feel guilty about owning it. Second of all, the DVD set contains a bunch of fabulous bonus features, including: alternate endings, bonus webisodes, and a featurette about all of the possible identities of “A.”
Season 3 contains twenty-four jaw-dropping episodes that will have you changing your mind at each episode’s conclusion over the identity of “A.” While each of the little liars has her moment in the spotlight, Emily’s story line takes front and center for most of the season. In season one, Emily began dating a girl named Maya, who disappeared in season two. After Maya’s remains were found, it was obvious she had been murdered. The murderer may still be in Rosewood, with his/her eyes on Emily as the next victim. Aria is dating Ezra, but after meeting his mother and brother she learns there are still many things she doesn’t know about him. Someone from Ezra’s past comes back, and it could mean the end of Ezra and Aria. Spencer and Toby’s relationship goes through some serious ups and downs, with Spencer wondering just how “real” everything is between them. Meanwhile, trouble is brewing for Hannah as Officer Wilden keeps interfering with the girls—who know he had a connection with Alison.
Highlights of Season 3
These are just a few of my favorite moments in season three of Pretty Little Liars.
- Episode 13: This is a Dark Ride. I love this entire Halloween-themed episode, and especially Adam Lambert’s performance and vampire costume.
- Spencer’s Breakdown Some serious stuff happens with Toby in this season, and Troian Bellisario’s acting skills are given some true moments to shine.
- Meredith Aria begins a friendship of sorts with Meredith, the woman who her father, Byron had an affair with. Amanda Schull, the actress who plays Meredith, does a great job playing crazy characters.
Pretty Little Liars returns to ABC Family on October 22nd with a special Halloween episode at 8/7c.
