Title:  The Love Dare for Parents

Author: Stephen Kendrick & Alex Kendrick

My Review:

I read The Love Dare two years ago and it was such an insightful way to learn more about opportunities to grow closer to my husband in our marriage partnership. Since the 40 day challenge was such a positive experience in our relationship, I was very excited to read the latest book in the series, The Love Dare for Parents.

I am the mother of three children, ages 8, 6 and 5. My husband and I love our children deeply but at times struggle with understanding their behaviors and seek ways to respond to them with love instead of anger. The Love Dare for Parents by Stephen Kendrick and Alex Kendrick is a wonderful addition to The Love Dare series as it helps guide parents as they “turn the hearts of parents to their children and turn the hearts of children to their parents” thus supporting solid biblical practices for parenting the ultimate goal of a closer parents/child relationship. I really like that this book promotes positive reinforcement with each of the 40 days devoted to bringing The Love Dare to life for parents and their children.

Before starting our own parenting love dare, we took the free online parent assessment available online at The Love Dare website. It was very helpful and insightful as we got ready to begin.

The Love Dare for Parents will take our family on a 40 day journey to help my husband and I better understand our children, practice and communicate an empathetic, unconditional love to them. I like that it is simple to follow each “dare” so it doesn’t take up a lot of time in our busy schedule and yet it provides a wealth of valuable information. I start the day’s “dare” by reading the Scripture verse and read the bible principle pertaining to a particular parenting situation or challenge. I don’t normally like to journal but I have found it very helpful to write down my thoughts and my children’s responses in the journal areas of the book. So far, we have focused on ways to show love, teach kindness, model compassion and patience and my children have been very open and receptive to our efforts.

I look forward to spending more time taking this challenge as I ultimately grow ever closer to my children. I may never be the “perfect” parent but I can try to teach my children the value of love, kindness and empathy.

The Love Dare for Parents is available for purchase for the SRP of $14.99. It is available at major book retailers in stores and online…..if you are a parent looking for unique, loving way to get closer to your children then I highly recommend adding this book to your summer reading list!
