My Grandma June was of Irish ancestry. I remember her telling me about Orangemen’s Day where every July 12 she would wear orange clothes. It was to celebrate Prince William of Orange’s victory over King James II at the Battle of the Boyne in 1690. In honour of her and of upcoming St. Patrick’s Day, I put together these picture quotes of popular Irish proverbs. I think she would have really liked them.
Do you have a favourite Irish proverb?

Great Irish proverbs, and I like the food that is with this Holiday. I love Corn beef and Cabbage! I make mine in the Crockpot! I like the tenderness of making Corn Beef in the Crockpot with all the juices!

My dad was 100% Irish- so I love these! I especially like “Time is a great. Storyteller.” My Grandma had that on a magnet in her kitchen.

My Irish grandmother was more prone to superstitions than proverbs, and now, decades later, I have to knock on wood, or put a penny in a purse I’m giving as a gift, or wear a shirt inside out all day if I put it on that way by mistake, etc., etc., etc.
Yes! My grandma June was the exact same way!!! I’m still like that too. I did that with the shirt the other too lol.
Love these. Perfect for St. Patricks Day coming up!

My family has some Irish ancestry, and I always love the pictures of the Emerald Isle. I once did a report on how Christmas is celebrated in Ireland, and I actually knew how to say “Merry Christmas” in Irish Gaelic. I can’t remember it now. It was six words long!
My Great-Grandma was Irish and wow she was so superstitious that is was scary..lol. She too had many proverbs and most have passed down to us along the way. My favorite was always “The well fed does not understand the lean.” Thanks so much for your posting, the pictures are beautiful.

Beautiful pictures and beautiful quotes! The first quote was a favorite of a foreman I worked for when I was a first year apprentice. He was always saying “you reap what you sow”. (usually in response to a male 2nd year apprentice who I used to tease. lol)
I believe that all of my Irish ancestors left Ireland before the potato famine.
