Title: Curse of the Thirteenth Fey: The True Tale of Sleeping Beauty
Author: Jane Yolen
My Review:
I have always been passionate about reading and can clearly recall several books from my early teen years that made such an impression that I can still remember those stories today. Curse of the Thirteenth Fey: The True Tale of Sleeping Beauty by Jane Yolen is destined to be one of those books for today’s readers of juvenile fiction. This extraordinary book by one of our family’s favorite authors tells the story of the fairy Gorse who is the “thirteenth and youngest of the Shouting Fey, a family of fairies who are tied to the evil king’s land”. If anyone in the family tries to break their centuries old oath to the king they will be punished by bursting into a thousand stars. When Gorse becomes sick, the “real” story of Sleeping Beauty begins to unfold from the perspective of a smart fairy heroine and I promise that it will grab hold of you and not let go until the very last page…………….
This “true” story of the fairy and the backdrop of a princess cursed by a sleeping spell brilliantly combines magic into a captivating modern twist fairy tale that is sure to delight young readers and adults too. How will the story end? Will the curse bring an end to them all? Curse of the Thirteenth Fey: The True Tale of Sleeping Beauty by Jane Yolen is an excellent book to curl up on the couch with a cup of tea on a cold winter night but be ready to stay up late because you won’t want to put this one down!
This marvelous book is recommended for ages 10 and up and the Curse of the Thirteenth Fey: The True Tale of Sleeping Beauty is available for purchase for the hardcover SRP of $16.99. You can purchase it now at Amazon.com or other online retailers.
