Make the Drop & Help the Environment Giveaway #MakeTheDrop #EveryOneCounts

What do you do with used batteries? Do you throw them away or put them in a jar? I’ve always been just throwing them in the trash and never giving it a second thought. What if I told you that you can recycle batteries? Would you do it? I recycle everything else so my answer would be, “Most definitely!”.

Single use batteries can be recycled and used to produce new goods. Batteries thrown away cause more pollution in our landfills so its much better for our environment now and in the future to recycle our old batteries. With batteries being responsible for 50 to 70% of all heavy metals in landfills, think about what a difference it could make for people to recycle them instead!

Soon we will be “falling back” an hour and that is normally the time that people replace their batteries in their smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, etc. If you are a resident of Ontario, please don’t throw away those batteries! Ontario residents can make a difference with Make the Drop, an Ontario-based initiative to raise awareness about the environmental benefits of recycling batteries.

Why You Should Make the Drop

Besides the obvious reason of helping our environment, there’s another big factor in why you should Make the Drop and recycle your batteries.

Stewardship Ontario will donate $0.30 per battery, up to a maximum of $15,000 for drop-offs!

You will be supporting your choice of one of two charities: EcoSpark or Kawartha Turtle Trauma Centre. Both are organizations that work towards making a positive impact on the environment in Ontario.

Their goal is to recycle 50,000 batteries and donate the maximum $15,000 to those worthy charities. Can they do it? I think so with your help!

How You Can Make the Drop

  • Visit the Make the Drop mobile app.
  • Input the number of batteries you plan to drop off
  • Drop them off at your nearest drop-off location, found here
  • Watch the $$$ raised increased thanks to your contribution!

So this is a call out to my Ontario readers, friends & family, please Make the Drop and recycle your old batteries.  These charities and the environment deserve our support!

My city only has the recycling drop off open during certain months of the year so I collect my batteries and drop them off in the spring. I have about 40 collected so far.
