Guidecraft Sorting Food Tray Puzzles Review

My favorite part of being a member of the Guidecraft® Educators Blog Team is having the opportunity to test and introduce you to some of the most creative toys available in the market. You are also invited to visit all of the other fabulous bloggers on the team and don’t forget to enter to win a wonderful prize from Guidecraft® (information will be available at the end of my review).

The line of Guidecraft® Sorting Food Tray Puzzles is a creative preschool learning toy. There are six manipulative puzzle sets available including “Breakfast”, “Lunch”, “Dinner”, “Japanese”, “Mexican” and “Italian”. Each of the Sorting Food Trays is made of high quality wooden pieces and features themed food for each meal or from different regions.

Little hands are sure to love the easy to grasp, chunky pieces. The bright, colorful pieces immediately grabbed the children’s attention and even the older children wanted to play so I created an impromptu educational game. After a lesson on health and nutrition the children (ages 4-6) played based on their skill level. For example, the four year old sorted the pieces for each tray representing “breakfast”, “lunch” and “dinner”. He especially loved the “Japanese” Sort Food Tray and was thrilled to be able to pick up “food” pieces with his “chopsticks”.

The five and six year old decided to play a game together with all of the pieces placed into the middle of the play area. They would then select a puzzle piece and have to find the appropriate spot on one of the six sorting food trays in less than 30 seconds, calling out the name of the item. Later, the children asked if they could use their Sorting Food Trays in their play kitchen. As a mom and an educator, this is precisely the reason that I love Guidecraft® products……i.e. one toy can be used in so many different creative ways by children of various ages for hours of fun and learning.

Recommended for ages 2 and up, the Sorting Food Tray sets are available to purchase for only $22 per wooden manipulative puzzle. It is a great way to promote shape and color recognition, fine-motor skills, coordination, dramatic and imaginative play and even recognition of a balanced meal. The Sort Food Trays are nice individually but even better as a group.

You are invited to visit Guidecraft® to browse the entire selection of beautifully crafted wood furniture as well as educational products and toys for children.
