As the mother of a severely asthmatic child, I will admit that I am terrified of cold and flu season. It doesn’t help that my three children (ages 4, 5 and 6) are constantly putting their dirty hands in their mouths and eyes despite my constant reminders.
The Sneezy Wheezy Day is a delightful children’s picture book that is the third installment in the award winning series, Cougar Cub Tales. The author and illustrator, Sharon Cramer is also a nurse and mother of three so it makes perfect sense that she would write a book with a theme that centers around an adorable cougar cub who gets sick. Though engaging text and beautiful water colors, this book captivated my children who sat spellbound by all of the interesting animal characters who had lots of ideas for the perfect remedy.
Looking back, my fondest memories when I was sick as a child were the love and attention given to me by my mother. In fact, I am 38 years old and I still “want my mommy” when I get sick. I love that this book shows the love that a young cub has for her sick brother and how it is the “best remedy”. It also opened up a discussion between us about how the kids can avoid getting sick by using preventative measures.
