We receive a lot of packages at our home and thankfully I’ve never had to worry about them being stolen or damaged since I’m usually always home during the day. However, I remember when I did work outside the home and packages were delivered during the day. I’d come home and one would be waiting for me on my front stop. I never had a problem with anyone stealing a package but they have been damaged being out in the elements all day especially since we did not have a covered porch. I’ve heard horror stories from some of my readers and friends of mine of packages being left on their door and then stolen by neighbours! Seriously!
UPS is a company that is working to improve the experiences of consumers who do online shopping and have packages delivered to their home. They have developed a unique customizable delivery service for their residential customers called UPS My Choice. With UPS My Choice you can ensure that you are home when the packages are delivered.It also provides delivery alerts, specific delivery time frames, reroute options, a visibility dashboard and electronic signature release. You can access UPS My Choice from your computer or mobile phone. I think this sounds like a fantastic service to have especially if you are a person who worries about packages being taken or exposed to rain or snow. Never miss a package again with UPS My Choice!
UPS My Choice has two levels of membership: UPS My Choice Membership and UPS My Choice Premium Membership.
- UPS My Choice members receive phone, e-mail or text alerts notifying them a day in advance of when packages will arrive and providing a four-hour approximate delivery time frame. They also have the option to electronically authorize release of packages that require a signature and, for a $5 transaction fee, to reroute a package to another delivery address or have it delivered to the nearest The UPS Store location.
- UPS My Choice Premium Membership, available for a $40 annual subscription, provides all the benefits of a regular UPS My Choice membership at no additional cost and in addition, members gain access to an online delivery calendar that shows the status of UPS home deliveries. Premium members also are offered a two-hour delivery window. A $5 transaction fee is charged only upon successful delivery of the package within the two-hour commitment. You can also provide the UPS driver with detailed instructions on where to leave a package.

Our local news station just featured this story where a woman followed a UPS driver and would pick up packages left on the porch after he left. It was all caught on camera as this couple had a video survelliance. When she reached one house, she looked at a UPS letter, thought it was nothing and goes for the Mary Kay left on the porch. The UPS package contained airline tickets (which she probably wouldn’t have been able to use), but wow. I am a bit more wary of having packages delivered, but not sure I would utilize UPS services enough to need this account.
