Math Whizz Review & Giveaway (US & Can)

As a home educating mom, I am always searching for additional resources to supplement our home school curriculum. My six year old son loves math and it is his favorite 1st grade subject. I also have four and five year old preschool aged students who enjoy learning basic math skills, numbers and simple addition facts. I recently discovered a wonderful online math tutor program, Math Whizz and it has been an excellent resource for my children in our experience thus far.

Math Whizz is an award winning program that is designed for children ages 5-13 and the goal is to improve the students’ math. My six year old and five year old are currently using this online math program five days a week for at least 15-20 minutes. I like that Math Whizz uses core standards in order to improve overall math skills. The concept is that each individual student has a math “age” and the goal is for that math age to improve and advance over the course of the program.

Initially, the Math Whizz Tutor assessed my children to determine their starting and overall math age so that it was able to effectively tailor a unique program specifically to them and their abilities. It will focus on their strengths as well as areas that need extra assistance. While I did not participate at all in helping my children answer questions during the assessment period I did observe from a distance so that I would better understand how the program works.

Each math lesson brings the math concept “to life” with vivid, engaging animation. I appreciate that Math Whizz “aligns to US national and state standard in math, which means learning covers all the math topics and is matched to what they will need to know in school.” At the start of each lesson, the “teacher” will introduce the math concept and then there are a series of questions for the student to answer. If my son or daughter answers a question wrong, the tutor will give helpful clues so that they can try again. I really like this method of teaching as opposed to simply marking it as a “wrong answer” because it helps them to learn more efficiently and there is a definite boost of confidence when they get inevitably get the correct answer and ultimately understand the concept.

My children especially like that this program has a reward system in which earned credits can be used in their own online “Bedroom” area in order to “purchase” virtual pets, toys and their favorite, playing fun games. It is definitely an incentive and motivator for them to specifically ask to use Math Whizz during their designated time and even beyond per their request on occasion.

As a mom and educator, I especially value the live detailed reports that give me important information about my children’s status. It tracks performance, time on task, tests, lesson results etc. This is a particularly helpful tool in enabling me to know which specific areas to focus on in our daily math lessons and it shows me specifically how they are progressing.

Additional features and benefits of Math Whizz include:

  • Initial Assessment
  • Personalized Tutoring
  • Constant Monitoring
  • Detailed Reports
  • Builds Confidence & Performance
  • Rewards
  • Proven Results
  • Great Support
  • Money Back Guarantee

I have been very impressed with the quality and content of the Math Whizz online tutoring program so far with my two children. In fact, even my four year old son sits quietly and observes the older two completed their lessons and I have noticed a marked difference in his math confidence in our preschool class too! Over the course of the next two months, I will continue to bring you updates about this excellent program and provide you with specific details regarding my own children’s progress including their starting and current math ages. Hint……they have already shown improvement!

In my opinion, Math Whizz is very affordably priced and it is certainly much less expensive than a live tutor. You are invited to visit the Math Whizz website to learn more about the program or to subscribe for only $19.99 per month.
