My father is currently battling stage 4 cancer of the head and neck and although he is fighting, the prognosis is very poor. My young children have never personally experienced the sorrow of losing a loved one and are fearful of the unknown.
Therefore, I was very interested in reading this children’s book titled, Heaven is for Real for Kids as told by Colton Burpo to his parents, Todd & Sonja Burpo. It is the story of a little boy who was very sick and enjoyed a brief trip to heaven before his father’s prayers were answered and he came back. It is based on the #1 New York Times bestselling book (I can’t wait to read this book too) and this follow up was written specifically for children.
This young boy’s account is very warm and comforting and the accompanying illustrations by Wilson Ong are just beautiful. My children were very engaged throughout this story and were full of questions that they wanted to talk about. The accompanying “Questions Kids Ask” at the end of the book was also very helpful in guiding our discussion. We talked openly about the reality that one day soon their grandfather may make his own journey and would not be coming back as Colton did. They said that “Heaven looks like a nice place so Pops will probably love it there.” It touched my heart and I am pleased that Heaven is for Real for Kids is available for young children.

I like that the story comes from a 4-year-old boy. It makes the account so authentic.
I had seen this story on TV and I feel that it is amazing and real.
I like it is written about a child.
My mom just bought this book. Looks like a great read. Hope to win!!
I just wanted to offer you some ((((hugs))))) and prayers. I lost my dad in October very unexpectedly, my daughters teacher actually gave us this book and it is wonderful. My kids (esp my daughter) has had a very hard time with my dad’s death and she has, sadly, experienced a lot of death the past few years. She still wants to know why everyone in our family keeps dying… it breaks my heart.
I like that this book is told in a kid’s point of view. My kids have really had a hard time understanding death after our family pet died about a year ago and we lost our baby a couple months ago. I think this book would help give them some sort of peace that they need.
I learned that Heaven Is for Real is the true story of the four-year old son of a small town Nebraska pastor.
The story is told by his father but in Collin’s words.
Wow…what a terrific book. I read the excerpt. It sounds wonderful. What an insightful child.

I like that the book is told from a child’s view.
I didnt know there was a children’s book available. I wish there was one for preteens/teens. Also that they have now created a DVD study, for small groups and churches. I’ve read part of the book already and it is fantastic!
I’ve wanted to read this since I heard of it coming out. I firmly believe this existed for this child. My oldest grandson is now four but when he was two he told his Mom that he had selected her to be his Mom because he wanted to be apart of her family. This gave me goosebumps & at that moment I knew he had selected our family! I also wanted to take this chance to say I’m so sorry for what your family/Dad is going through. I lost my Dad five years ago and it sucks.
sounds like an interesting book!
Colton said he met his miscarried sister, whom no one had told him about, and his great grandfather who died 30 years before Colton was born, then shared impossible-to-know details about each. He describes the horse that only Jesus could ride, about how “reaaally big” God and his chair are, and how the Holy Spirit “shoots down power” from heaven to help us.
