ZoneFast Weight Loss Program Review
When I agreed to write about my experience with this two week program, I knew I would have to share a very personal journey with you…..here is my story. I have been very open about my struggle to lose the weight that I gained during three back to back pregnancies in 2005, 2006 and 2007. It is much more difficult for me to express the feelings of frustration, sadness, embarrassment and pain that I have experienced as a result of those extra 45 pounds. I was not only overweight but I also had joint pain, unexplainable swelling in my legs and lethargy. I have always eaten a healthy diet and been active so I could not understand how all of my efforts to lose the weight have failed. I read diet books, visited doctors who told me to reduce my daily calories from 1300 to 1000 and/or recommend dangerous supplements which I refused to consider taking and nothing that I did worked consistently. Even my ever supportive and naturally lean husband blurted out on day that he wanted me to “lose the weight because he was worried about my health” and I was devastated. Didn’t he understand how hard I had been trying by cutting calories, eating healthy and working out? After many tears and soul searching, I decided that I had to make a change and I revisited the Zone Diet by Dr. Barry Sears where I discovered Zone 1-2-3 foods. Over the two weeks that I followed this program, I began to lose a small amount of weight almost every day and my clothes were fitting better than ever. I continue to follow the principles of the Zone lifestyle and I am proud to say that I have lost a total of 18 pounds (in a 3 month period), I have dropped two full clothing sizes and I have more energy than ever with less joint pain and minimal swelling.
Since I have always eaten healthy foods including lots of fruits and vegetables and avoided processed foods, I didn’t understand why I was not losing weight. It was only after reading more about the Zone lifestyle and the inflammatory process within the body that I began to understand how this program could actually help me to become healthier and lose the weight. I learned that by eating foods that have a high glycemic index (even the healthy ones) by itself without the proper balance of proteins and fats, I may have been inadvertently sabotaging my body’s ability to lose weight by causing inflammation. The Zone 1-2-3 program is designed to supply the body with essential nutrients and the right balance of protein, carbohydrates and healthy fats.

A highlight of this program includes the Zone 1-2-3 Foods that were created by Dr. Barry Sears using his “patented ‘molecular baking’ process”. It includes “forbidden foods” that are normally high in unfavorable carbohydrates such as bread, bagels, pizza crust, pasta, pizza, granola, cookies and brownies. If you have ever eaten other “diet” food substitutes then you are probably rolling your eyes and grimacing but I can tell you that everything I ate is absolutely delicious and does not taste like diet food in the least. I also love the fact that the program offers a variety of foods. You can follow the included menu plan but you also have the option as I did to choose your own favorite Zone inspired meals. I enjoyed a wonderful Yogurt Crunchy Parfait for breakfast that I made with ½ cup plain greek yogurt, 4 strawberries, Zone granola and a touch of agave nectar. It was so delicious and more importantly it was very filling so I wasn’t feeling hungry at all until my next meal. It was so tasty that I made extra for my children to enjoy for a healthy snack too!
The Zone breads are soft and light and even my husband who is extremely particular about bread products thought that it was delicious. We also enjoyed a Zone bagel with cream cheese and berries, a Sesame Pretzel with a side of celery or the Cinnamon Bagel Chips as a snack. For dinners, I enjoyed Zone pasta and orzo with a heaping plate of vegetables with salmon or chicken breasts. For my sweet tooth, I love the occasional Double Chocolate Fudge Nougat Bar and Milk Chocolate Chunk Cookies and it is so satisfying.
I will admit that when I first started eating these delicious Zone food meals that I was terrified that the scale would go “up” instead of “down”. After all, how could I lose weight including the same types of foods that would normally cause my weight to skyrocket? Then it began to happen…….I started to notice the scale indicating a small weight loss almost every single day. My clothes began to feel looser and by the third week my husband complimented me by saying, “Honey, I am really proud of you because whatever it is that you are going….you are looking great!” I immediately felt my confidence begin to soar and for the first time in four years, I felt hope that I will hit my target healthy weight goal.
