Did you know that September is the first ever Bed Bug Awareness Month?
According to the National Pest Management Association (NPMA) and the University of Kentucky conducted a survey, 2011 Bugs Without Borders Survey, that reported that that bed bug infestations have increased and are now being found just about everywhere. The study, which surveyed U.S. pest management professionals, found that bed bug infestations are increasing in truly revolting ways in the last year:
- College dorms: 54% compared with 35% the year before
- Hotels: 80% compared with 67% from 2010
- Schools and day cares: 26%, up from 10%
In 2010 my family and I spent a weekend in a lovely cabin in a Florida State Park. We had a wonderful time and my husband and I even commented on how clean the accommodations were in our cabin. When we returned home, I noticed that I had strange, bothersome red bites all over my body and the same ugly red spots were on the rest of my family as well. I was mortified to learn that it was bed bug bites that we had gotten while staying in that same cabin and we were very lucky that we did not bring these horrible critters home with us.
Whenever we travel to hotels or cabins, we bring a bed bug insecticide with us to make sure we don’t have any more close calls. Stop Bugging Me! is our favorite bed bug eradicator because it is safe to use around our children and our dog. This naturally derived product is ready to use and it is considered to be 100% effective! It is designed to be sprayed in areas that you would certainly not want to be exposed to harmful chemical pesticides such as beds, bed linens, sofas, carpets etc.
Trust me when I tell you that you don’t want to tangle with bed bugs…..they are quite formidable and relentless once an infestation starts. Stop Bugging Me! prevents and kills bed bugs and the product line is available for purchase at many national retailers or online. I was pleased with the product line because it is a naturally derived green insecticide so it has a pleasant botanical scent, is biodegradable and did not cause staining when we sprayed it on our linens and mattresses at a hotel on a recent family getaway.
Don’t miss out on this special offer! In support of National Bed Bug Awareness Month, Stop Bugging Me! Is offering a special promotion for the month of September: Buy one product, get one free of equal or lesser value. Stop Bugging Me! also urges Americans to protect themselves against infestations by traveling prepared and knowing how and where to inspect. You can learn more about how to protect your family by visiting the Stop Bugging Me! website.

I learned:
Bed bugs do not transmit disease and are not related to sanitation – the cleanest homes can have them. They do not jump or fly, but because bed bugs are so small and thin, they can hide in very narrow cracks, and move quickly over walls, floors and furniture to spread basically anywhere.

They make a laundry additive that eliminates dust mite allergens.
Ugh…my skin started to crawl just reading this stuff! One thing I learned that stood out to me was that bedbugs can live up to a year without feeding on human blood. There have been times I’ve wondered about a particular mattress and thought that it was safe because it hadn’t been used in months. I thought that meant any bedbugs that might have been in it had died…WRONG! Blehhh!
