RateSupermarket.ca First Time Home Buyers Guide Review + $50 Starbucks GC Giveaway (Can)

I bought my first home in 2003 when we were still living in Edmonton, AB. I remember feeling a mixture of excitement and anxiety since it was such a big step for us. I KNEW it was the right decision however. We had been renting military housing and we were fed up with their crazy restrictions (they actually measured our grass!). It turned out that buying a home was the BEST decision we could have ever made for ourselves financially!

Here’s a picture of our first house we bought!

As new home buyers, we didn’t really have much guidance since our family wasn’t around to help us and we kind of just winged it. Looking back I wish there had been someone around to answer questions or a resource where we could go to find out information. I felt a little lost throughout the whole process.

I’m excited to inform people that there is now an excellent resource available to new home buyers! RateSupermarket.ca has introduced a First Time Home Buyers Guide that will guide you through this exciting process. They describe it as a two week boot camp that will get you into shape and ready to buy your first home. It consists of 14 daily emails leading you step by step and by the time you are done, you will feel much more comfortable about making all those important decisions.

In the First Time Home Buyers Guide, you can expect:

  • Quizzes: To test your knowledge and determine your needs
  • Tips and Facts: Learn tips from the pros including how to pay off your mortgage faster, budgeting tips for your new home and how to get the best mortgage rate.
  • Tools: Quick and easy tools to find out important information like affordability calculator and a mortgage calculator and more.

I love this site! They explain information that would have confused me before and put it into terms I could easily undertstand and relate to. I actually spent a good amount of time just perusing all the topics and I learned so much! In addition to the First Time Home Buyers Guide,  you can find information on saving for a down payment, compare mortgage rates and my personal favourite, renting vs. buying. RateSupermarket.ca even has an iPhone app!

If you are thinking of buying a new home in Canada, then I highly recommend you check out the First Time Home Buyers Guide. Even if the home you are purchasing isn’t your first one, it is still worth checking out. I’ve added RateSupermarket.ca to my bookmarks and I suggest you do too!
