My children view the Steps4Kids® Write Their ABC’s DVD at least once per week and it is an important resource in our home school curriculum. Steps4Kids® has a series of award-winning DVDs that promote learning and utilizes visual teaching and support for children pre-school through elementary school ages.
I was recently informed that the public school system in Florida no longer teaches cursive writing and I was mortified. How are children going to learn how to sign their names or take notes quickly by hand if they are not able to write in cursive? Thankfully, Steps4Kids® has two exceptional DVD’s that can teach children how to write in cursive.
The Modern Manuscript DVD is proud to have won the Creative Child Magazine 2010 Media of the Year Award. It was created to help young writers (and strugglers writers too) learn how to write their ABCs on lined paper and teaches the slanted writing style that is the precursor to cursive writing. I love how Steps4Kids DVD’s present a lot of information in a way that builds confidence in the student as opposed to being overwhelming or frustrating. The step-by-step visual teaching approach really works with my children and my six year old son loves the challenge of Modern Manuscript. He particularly likes that this DVD includes letter graphics with over 100 sight words and sight word games and the drawing “breaks” using letters is always a big hit. The DVD reinforces the teaching principles by auditory repetition of letter sounds to help children develop a phonetic awareness too which is an important tool in learning to read too.
The companion to Modern Manuscript is the Steps4Kids® Cursive DVD. A Dr. Toy 2008 award-winner, Cursive shows children how to write all upper and lowercase letters and includes two versions to conform to most writing programs. I never learned how to use a proper grip for a pen/pencil when I was in grade school so I was pleased that this DVD teaches children the proper grips for right and left handed children. It also includes helpful tips for children to be able to remember how to connect the letters and shows them how to write words for additional cursive writing practice. The colorful graphics are engaging and introduces children to sight words written in cursive. I am delighted that the Cursive DVD is available as a resource so that my children will learn how to sign their names and write in cursive….thank you Steps4Kids®!
Are you concerned about teaching your children how to multiply? Steps4Kids® Multiply is a comprehensive DVD to teach the foundations of this critical math skill. It utilizes colorful graphics, auditory support, visual demonstrations, engaging problems and shows equations both vertically and horizontally to reinforce rote memory skills. It is an excellent introduction to multiplication and it does a great job of explaining the concept of multiplying which is the first step in my opinion to being able to move on and memorize the multiplication facts 0-12. I will definitely incorporate this DVD into our math routine next year when my son is introduced to multiplication.
I highly recommend the Steps4Kids® handwriting and math learning DVDs. We personally use these educational programs in our home and it has made a significant difference in the learning process. You are invited to visit Steps4Kids® to learn more about each of these DVDs which are affordably priced at only $19.99-$24.99 each. There is even money saving bundle packs available too!
