About the Book:
Discover some of the secrets to Shakespeare’s inspiration. The seven stories in this collection each influenced one of Shakespeare’s plays during his creation process. Included before each of the stories are fascinating facts and insights into the local traditions and political issues that shaped the plays.
My Review:
Oh why couldn’t Shakespeare’s work have been this appealing to me when it was required reading in high school. Shakespeare’s Storybook is a wonderful introduction to inspire young readers. This paperback book is part of the Barefoot Books Young Fiction line and it is a collection of folk tales that helped provide the inspiration for Shakespeare’s plays. I thoroughly enjoyed reading all seven stories in this book and my favorites were “As You like it-Snowdrop” and “Ashboy”. The illustrations are visually appealing and the stories are quite entertaining. In my opinion (and personal experience) the classics can be overwhelming to young readers so this is an excellent way to inspire a desire to read more of Shakespeare’s plays.
Shakespeare’s Storybook (paperback chapter book) is available for purchase at Barefoot Books for only $12.99.
I also highly recommend checking out all of the books in the Young Fiction collection.
