It’s More Than Just Thrifting

Hi, I’m Ces of http://momdaughterstyle.blogspot.com/. I love to go bargain hunting and go to thrift stores so I chose this topic. I hope you find it interesting.

Assistance League thrift shops — Assistance League has charitable programs that are designed to meet specific needs of certain communities. They have programs for children that are there to help build a foundation for learning. They provide the underprivileged with new shoes, clothing and school supplies. They also have a program for the young trauma victims and hospitalized children where they provide teddy bears to help comfort them for speedy recovery.

Goodwill –When we hear thrift store, we associate it with Goodwill. I know somebody who works at Goodwill and he says that when he mentions it, people would always think that he is working in a thrift store. Goodwill provides employment to people, including youth, seniors, veterans, immigrants, disabled, and other specialized needs. They operate in the United States and Canada. According to one of their websites, “In 2009, Goodwill helped 1.9 million people train for careers in industries such as banking, IT and health care, to name a few — and get the supporting services they needed to be successful, such as English language training, additional education, or access to transportation and child care.”

Habitat for Humanity — Habitat’s ReStore resale outlets sell surplus materials of building to consumers which will save them money through recycling. We can all use a little help in cutting down costs when we do renovations to our homes. The proceeds help local Habitat partners or affiliates fund the construction of homes within their communities. They build affordable housing for people who are in need. It’s a win-win situation for the organization and the consumers who buy their products.

These stores all belong to wonderful organizations which we should all endorse and support. They surely are more than just thrift stores!
