Etch-A-Sketch turns 50 this year. Can you believe that? I remember playing with Etch-A-Sketch when I was a kid. I loved it. The ability to erase things and start over with a clean slate. What can I say I was probably a neurotic kid. I liked clean slates. Etch-A-Sketch was founded in 1960 by the Ohio Art Company and they have sold over 150 million products since then. That’s an impressive number for a toy.
In honor of the anniversary the Ohio Art Company teamed up with Red Robin to celebrate the day. During July they held an “Etch-A-Sketch A Burger Contest” and encouraged people to submit pictures of their favorite burger drawn on an Etch-A-Sketch. If you’d like to see the winners they can be found on Red Robin’s website.
My kids had a blast playing with the Etch-A-Sketch. I can’t believe that I hadn’t gotten my kids one of these before now. We had fun guessing what each other was drawing. Colby thought it was hysterical when his sisters shook it to erase their pictures. I’m still not sure why it was so funny but he loved it anyway.
The Etch-A-Sketch is a high quality, timeless classic that all kids should have the opportunity to play with.
