Veggie Tales SweetPea Beauty DVD Review

Title: Sweetpea Beauty

Recently, my three year old daughter watched me put on make-up and said “Mommy, can I have lip gloss?”  I explained that little girls don’t wear make-up and she said “but Mommy, I want to look pretty.” I felt so sad that my beautiful daughter thought she needed make-up to feel pretty.

I was very happy to have the opportunity a few days later to review “Sweetpea Beauty”, the new Veggie Tales release on DVD. I was thrilled that this is the first Veggie Tales title that features the challenges faced by young girls everywhere. We settled in on family movie night to watch this feature, which I knew would appeal to my daughter. What I didn’t anticipate is that my 5 and 2 year olds sons would be just as captivated by the tales of Sweetpea and the bonus episode of Snooderella. There was much laughter, singing and entertainment in our home watching Sweatpea and even my husband commented that this was a “good message for the kids” As a mom, I have always liked the positive messages of the Veggie Tales series. This particular Veggie Tales DVD hits home because it focuses on how some children cope with feelings of insecurity and not feeling “handsome” or “pretty”. Sweatpea Beauty gave us a wonderful opportunity to talk to our children about inner beauty versus outside appearance and what truly makes someone “beautiful”. I personally enjoyed the song “Beautiful For Me” by Nichole Nordeman, which is included at the end of the show and is in a word…beautiful!

To purchase Sweetpea Beauty or to check out other Veggie Tale titles go to Christian retailers, Amazon.com or Veggie Tales.

I agree. It is sad to see sometimes little girls of 5 or 7 yrs old wearing so much make up, to make themselves pretty to this world. They are pretty the way they are…I like this movie and thinking on buying it for my little niece =)
