Book Review & Giveaway: Twice Tempted by a Rogue (Closed)

Title: Twice Tempted by a Rogue

Author: Tessa Dare

About the Book:

The daring members of the Stud Club are reckless gamblers and no strangers to risk—until love raises the stakes in Twice Tempted by a Rogue.

Luck is a double-edged sword for brooding war hero Rhys St. Maur. His death wish went unanswered on the battlefield, while fate allowed the murder of his good friend in the elite gentlemen’s society known as the Stud Club. Out of options, Rhys returns to his ancestral home on the moors of Devonshire, expecting anything but a chance at redemption in the arms of a beautiful innkeeper who dares him to take on the demons of his past—and the sweet temptation of a woman’s love.

Meredith Maddox believes in hard work, not fate, and romance isn’t part of her plan. But when Rhys returns, battle-scarred, world-weary, and more dangerously attractive than ever, the lovely widow is torn between determination and desire. As a deep mystery and dangerous smugglers threaten much more than their passionate reckoning, Meredith discovers that she must trust everything to a wager her heart placed long ago.

My Review:

Let me start out by saying that I normally don’t read romance novels. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to review this book, but I had a gut instinct to say yes when I was approached by Lisa at TLC Tours. Well, all I can say now is I am glad I listened to myself- this book was wonderful!!

Its actually the second book of a trilogy about The Stud Club and while the first book, One Dance with a Duke, was about the Duke of Morland, this one followed Rhys St. Maur and told his story. I enjoyed the first book in the trilogy, but it doesn’t even compare to the second, Twice Tempted by a Rogue. I LOVED Twice Tempted by a Rogue! I am not even sure where to even start!

First off, I connected with both them main characters, Rhys and Meredith, and felt them to be genuine and believable. I felt what they were feeling and could see their world through their eyes. I could just feel the passion and chemistry coming right off the words from the pages of the book. Some of the sex scenes were quite vivid and steamy, but not in a disturbing way. I actually thought they were well written and their descriptive nature didn’t bother me one bit.

The storyline was also good. I liked reading about Meredith’s story of running the inn and learning about both of their pasts and how they were intertwined.  It was exciting especially towards the end and there’s some twists in there that will leave you on the edge of your seat. I just HAD to keep on reading to find out what happened!

One of the best things about the book though was the description of the scenery at Buckleigh-in-the-Moor. The author does such a fabulous job in describing this hauntingly beautiful place that it made me visualize it in my mind’s eye. I would love to visit a place like it someday. Its also set back in the 1800s and it was interesting to learn how they did things back then. I found it interesting when they described how they took a bath at the hotel they went to in Bath. The maids would come in and fill up the tub with hot water in buckets since there was no running water. Life was MUCH different back then.

This was a book that I was sad to see end. I wanted to savour each delicious page and keep on reading. I can’t wait to read the third book in the trilogy, Three Nights with a Scoundrel. This is an AMAZING book and I highly recommend you read this trilogy with me even if you aren’t typically a romance novel reader.

*I received a copy of this book to review but I was not financially compensated in any way. The opinions expressed are my own and are based on my observations while reading this novel.*
