Book Review: Courting Morrow Little

This is a lovely book. A marvelous look at frontier life, the conflict between the British, the Americans and the Shawnee. The story seems effortless and unwinds quite naturally. Laura Frantz writes about the history of Kentucky with an eye for detail. Her author bio on the back of the book even says she’s a member of the Kentucky Historical Society.

Morrow Little and her family live on a small homestead near a fort on the Red River. A Shawnee raid takes all but her father from her. After several years living with her aunt, she returns home, finding the home she left behind isn’t quite as she remembers it. At eighteen, she’s of marrying age and all the soldiers at the fort are keenly aware of that. So is a certain half-Shawnee brave. Morrow must decide if she will follow her heart or marry a man she’ll never love.

I usually read Victorian romances but this book has made me aware that other historical romances may be well worth picking up. I enjoyed this book thoroughly and it was refreshing not to have to read a “heavy breathing” scene in a piece of romantic fiction. I definitely recommend this book. I can hardly wait to pick up my next book for review, another romance novel from the same publisher!
