My Review:
This is a new series of books written for young children by an author with over 30 years experience in the field of Early Childhood Education. As an Early Childhood Educator myself, I was immediately impressed with Ms. Fitzgerald’s idea.
The main characters in the series are her grandchildren Owen and Declan who have many adventures with their Nanny.
I am actually reviewing two books, and as you can see from the title they are about the outdoors… early science type books. The dialog is simple and when I read the books I could actually imagine children asking these questions. The books are simply and beautifully illustrated in a folksy kind of way and are very appealing to younger children.
Each book has a poem, something to make {craft}, a picture dictionary, extra science facts and a language arts type activity encouraging the children to go back through the book to find specific letters. {letter recognition} Kids will love the fact that each book is similar in format to the other…. there’s something about that kind of predictability that young ones enjoy.
The other titles which will follow in the series are, In the Tree, In the Yard, In the Woods, In the Woodpile, In the Pond. I hope you enjoy these books as much as I did!
