Title:There Was Once a Potato
Author: Ebony Haywood
This is another clever children’s book… it’s a rhyming book and it is a little silly~ 2 of my favorite things in a kids book.
Basically the book takes place in the refrigerator behind closed doors {and who really knows? We aren’t in there!}, and the story goes from there. It brings a whole new meaning to the term “food fight.” Here’s a little excerpt from page one.
“There once was a potato named ClamatoeWho knew a cucumber named Columber,Who was cousin to a pickle named Malickle,Who was best friends with an apple named Katapple.And together they lived as snug as can be,In a refrigerator in a house, on Maple Street…”
I read this book to a student I work with and I knew she would love it because she has a weird sense of humor like me! I could hardly read the book because she was giggling so much and a good time was had by both of us. {We both agree that our favorite new word is “Malickle.”}
Colorful illustrations, clever prose and a sense of silliness is sure to bring a smile to both the listener and the reader… this is one of those books that must be read a loud.
