Book Review & Giveaway: What to Wear for the Rest of Your Life (Closed)

Title:What to Wear for the Rest of Your Life: Ageless Secrets of Style

Author: Kim Johnson Gross

About the Book:

Every woman’s closet-no matter the size-is a room of her own. In that space hang side by side the special occasions and the everyday, the triumphs and the disasters, the memories we want to keep and those we should jettison. Gross helps us to reconsider our closet identity and discover who we want to be. She shares her personal journey and the intimate, poignant and often humorous stories of the dozens of women she interviewed across the country. Along with calming fashion advice about how to choose flattering clothes that will fit any woman’s shape and style, Gross’s engaging stories will help every woman evolve gracefully from wife to mother, from empty-nester to globe-trotting adventurer–whatever role she chooses–while letting her style express her inner beauty.

My Review:

I am the type of girl that I will wear what is comfortable for me. I don’t necessarily care if I look like I have just stepped out of the latest fashion magazines, but I don’t want to look like I’m a bum either! I have learned it all on my own, and failed miserably. I would rather wear the comfortable clothes and no makeup than get up and dress nicely and wear any sort of makeup. I have not had many “mother figures” in my life, or “sisters” that teach you about makeup and clothes.

I am all into quotes, especially when you are reading a book. It helps when you come across that quote, to reflect on the time you first heard it. This book is full of them, from the first quote from the author’s mother, down to each chapter giving you quotes, so when you hear the quotes again, you can remember when you read this book!

Yet recently, all this “girlie stuff” has all changed for me. I have begun caring about myself, wearing a bit of makeup, and learning more about the “ageless secrets of style” Kim talks about. I would suggest reading the book through first, before you go back through each chapter. After you have read through the book first, get a notebook of some sort, to be able to write things down. If you are on a budget, look for consignment shops in your area; they are always good at getting clothes that are in the current style and in good condition.

I love how this book is teaching me how to put clothes together, how to look for clothes that is better for your figure, and even underwear! You also get information about how to organize your closet, and keep it working for you. It even has a section about what to wear when you meet your ex’s next (as she calls it), so that you look your very best.

From the very first chapter down to the very last page, this book was a really great read. I am taking the things Kim talks about here, into my own life…since I didn’t have that “female figure” to take me under their wing! I love how she talks about this subject, like it is just as important as waking up every day! It truly is helping me get things into perspective, and look at my own closet and what is and isn’t in it. I am purchasing clothes, jewelry and accessories that I like, thanks to the tips and things I learned in this book. Another one on my list of “must reads” for anyone wanting a bit of style, especially before you go and buy a bunch of summer clothes!

This review is my own opinion!
