Title: What’s It Like Living Green?: Kids Teaching Kids, by the Way They Live
Author: Jill Ammon Vanderwood
I really liked this book. I work in a school and have seen many books about living green and the environment, but truthfully they are often “boring” for the kids and lack a connection in some ways.
This book was quite different because the stories are from actual kids who have done something to live cleaner and have made real differences in the world around them and it also challenges us to do a better job in our world.
There are classroom activities with well laid objectives listed, there are quizzes and tons of online resources given.
This book does not talk down to children, it gives them a reality check into the world we live in and even discusses things like “Why are families concerned with products from China?” {Asbestos}, creating a green school, energy saving tips… lots of great topics.
I think this book is a great resource for teachers to add into their teaching about science and the environment…
